Britain Votes For the Beginning of the End
Townhall.com ^ | February 10, 2013 | Michael Youssef

On February 5, Britain’s House of Commons voted in favor of legalizing gay marriage. The vote is extremely alarming. It could signal the beginning of the end for Western civilization as we know it.

The idea of same-sex marriage is troubling even to some homosexuals, let alone those who hold a biblical conviction that marriage is intended by the Creator to be between a man and a woman.

The vote, which was 400-175, represented a major crack in the Conservative Party. More than half of its 303 members voted against or abstained from the measure. Prime Minister David Cameron may go down in history as the man who hammered the last nail in the Conservative Party coffin.

For now, the legislation has tried to appease the Church of England by exempting it. But that can be of little comfort to its faithful members and pastors. Unlike the U.S., where the government has no authority over the church, the Church of England’s tie to the British government is more than just a mere formality. The cannons of the church affect the government, and vice versa.

In addition, if the exemption is successfully challenged in the European Court of Human Rights, then the church will have no option. They will be forced against their conscience, conviction, and core belief to marry same-sex couples. If that happens, you’ll see a mass exodus from the Church of England to either the Catholic Church or evangelical independent churches (depending on a person’s high- or low-church tendencies).

The hope now lies within the House of Lords. But that’s a fragile hope. Even if they kill off this troubling legislation, it will only die for a season. The homosexual lobby will bring it up again and again and again. They are tenacious and even vicious. Voters against the legislation have received abuse and even death threats. David Burrowes, a ministerial aide, has been called a “Nazi.”

And this I can predict with certainty: the next group in England to seek similar legislation for their cause will be the polygamists. Muslims in England have been waiting for this legislation to pass before trying to get their legal right to marry four wives.

It is hardly a secret in England that many Muslims claim welfare benefits for multiple wives while the British government turns a blind eye to the hemorrhaging of taxpayer money.

Every time Western civilization seems to reach the bottom, one discovers a new low even farther down the pit. If Western populations don’t wake up, before long they will find themselves all the way in the Lake of Fire with the devil laughing his head off.

To the state in the modern era, the definition it uses is whatever judges, pols, or the voting majority think it is at any one time. Pope Leo XIII warned about the state’s influence concerning marriage 130 years ago. Makes you wonder what the state might consider marriage in another 130 years.

Yeah, it wasn't Adam and Eve, it was Adam and Earl. Right. Got it.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that those who want to change the definition of the word “marriage” are mostly the same people who have changed the definitions of crucially-important words like “person,” “posterity,” “life,” “equal,” and “due process,” leading to the slaughter of more than fifty million innocent children in this country alone.

Justice, the rule of law, and in fact civilization itself, are impossible without a common, reasonable understanding of the meanings of words, one that is based in an awareness of the laws of nature and of nature’s God.

Destroy that, and ultimately, you will have destroyed everything.

Words mean things. We can never forget that.

Polygamy and child marriages in the 1800’s drove the notion that the state should get involved in issuing “marriage licenses.”

And here we are going full circle in a process that may end up with legalized polygamy.

Just like “guns” get people all emotional demanding new laws today, the polygamists (Mormons in particular) and marriages involving young girls got people emotional back then demanding government intervention.

I think the problem is that many have been conditioned to think marriage comes from and is defined by the state, that’s why so many accept the concept of ‘gay marriage’ in the first place. It can exist because the state says it can, it comes in little pieces of paper. The paper denotes a contract with benefits and strictures between any parties the state chooses and can be broken and resumed as long as the state gives its permission.

A lot of times those faiths that accept ‘gay marrige’ won’t even act on this belief until the state tells them that it also accepts ‘gay marrige.’ Which might be more insane than buying into ‘gay marriage’ in the first place.

Go ahead Western libs — ramp it up. Legalize gays, legalize illegals, legalize muslim polygamy. Let’s just speed this thing up, kill ALL the jobs, get EVERYONE on welfare ...

The faster the BETTER, so we can watch this b*tch crash that much sooner.

It's strange that these articles don't point out the legislation's prospect in the House of Lords.

This makes me think Lords may have what it takes to stop it.

And I don't agreewith this articl that Lords stopping it won't do anything because of the assumption that Commons will vote it again and again. It's possible next time that many of the "voting present" in Commons will vote "no" next time, which shows a decrease in support, not an increase. We'll see.

Condoning homosexual behavior became the liberal cause du jour a long time ago. Homosexuals seized the opportunity to push their agenda to force 'straight' society to not only recognize their perversity and say that it was not only legal and good but actually normal. 'Same sex marriage' is the endgame and apparently, the homosexuals have won. The damage to what was once termed 'traditional morality' and the alteration of the behavior of people in a civilized society that adhered to that morality, for the most part, will have far-reaching, negative ramifications, just as the acceptance of abortion - infanticide by another name - has since Roe v Wade, 40 years ago. None of this ends well for western civilization.

No smartie, not everybody knows that - I know that, and YOU know that, but 99% of the heterosexual community who support gay marriage has not idea that’s the ultimate goal.....which was my point FROM THE BEGINNING

it’s tough to claim they want to be married by a church whose core beliefs they abhor and violate daily

same with the pro abortion crowd

“Canada legalized same-sex marriage long ago and the only thing that has changed is you never hear about same-sex marriage any more ,give them nothing to complain about and they go away”

Try having kids in a gay-friendly state and see if they go away...

And the next perversion they are trying to legitimize is sex with children. One wonders how long God will put up with this.

2 Kings gives you a pretty good perspective on how God deals with issues like these.

(Art.) The cannons of the church affect the government, and vice versa.

All wishful thinking aside, in England the canons have no cannon, the Church of England being unarmed save by prayer and doctrine. The military orders, the Templars and Hospitalers, used to have cannon, but they left their cannon in Canaan.

the point of homosexual ‘marriage’ isn’t to get married... but the destruction of the church

Not the church, so much, as het marriage itself, and society's implicit sanction of het sex over homosex. That is what sticks in their craw.

Marriage holds out to everyone who has eyes and a brain, that heterosexuality is normal, and homosexuality is paraphilic and abnormal. They hate that and will punish you just for knowing it, if they can.

There is nobody so vicious as a hateful little twisted person who demands vindication of his twistedness at the expense of everyone else in the room.

AND: will any non gays care any more? I think once the “forbidden fruit” is no longer forbidden, they’ll abandon it.

I think you're right, they don't really care. Single-sex "marriage" </off oxymoronic joke> is notional and a test of the strength of their backstairs political conspiracy, which does matter.

As they deface traditional marriage, they also call into serious question the viability of representative government, by compromising and traducing with political money, bad press, and blackmail, officeholders who've sworn to defend the interests of their constituents: the officeholders aren't doing that any more, are they?
