Ben Carson for President
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 02/08/2013 | Review and Outlook

"Whether this weekend finds you blowing two feet of snow off the driveway or counting the hours until "Downton Abbey," make time to watch the video of Dr. Ben Carson speaking to the White House prayer breakfast this week.

Seated in view to his right are Senator Jeff Sessions and President Obama. One doesn't look happy. You know something's coming when Dr. Carson says, "It's not my intention to offend anyone. But it's hard not to. The PC police are out in force everywhere."

He said on some show that he was Independent. Judging from the books, I think health care policy is pretty well thought through but have no idea on anything else...

> At best it is meant to protect the feelings of people in a diverse and complex culture.

Political correctness was never about this. It was always about stifling views that dissent from the liberal orthodoxy. In essence, it is to make certain politically incorrect ideas (like liberty, God, etc.) unspeakable and eventually unthinkable.

That makes sense, but getting elected as an Independent might be tricky- but there might also be an advantage there, drawing votes from both major parties.

Ben Carson Biography - Facts, Birthday, Life Story - Biography.com

Benjamin Solomon Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951. The second son of Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson, Ben grew up in the hardened climate of inner-city Detroit. Ben's mother was raised in Tennessee in a very large family. She dropped out of school in the third grade. With not much hope or prospects in life, she married Baptist minister Robert Carson when she was 13, believing that he would change her life. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan, and for a time, the marriage was a success. Carson showered his wife with gifts and attention. But over time, Robert Carson changed. Though benevolent, he could also be domineering and erratic. In time, Sonya felt it was best for her sons if she and Robert divorced.

Ben was eight and Curtis, Ben's brother, was 10 when Sonya was left to raise the children on her own. The family was very poor, and to make ends meet Sonya sometimes took on two or three jobs at a time in order to provide for her boys. Most of the jobs she had were as a domestic servant. There were occasions when her boys wouldn't see her for days at a time, because she would go to work at 5:00 AM and come home around 11:00 PM, going from one job to the next. She was frugal with the family's finances, cleaning and patching clothes from the Goodwill in order to dress the boys. The family would also go to local farmers and offer to pick corn or other vegetables in exchange for a portion of the yield. She would then can the produce for the kids' meals. Her actions, and the way she managed the family, proved to be a tremendous influence on Ben and Curtis.

Sonya also taught her boys that anything was possible. By his recollection many years later, Ben Carson had thoughts of a career in medicine, though it was more of a fantasy many young children harbor as they grow up. Because his family was on medical assistance, they would have to wait for hours to be seen by one of the interns at the hospital. Ben would listen to the pulse of the hospital as doctors and nurses went about their routines. Occasionally, there'd be an emergency and he could hear in people's voices and in their quick movements the pace and emotions rise to meet the challenge. He'd hear the PA system call for a "Dr. Jones" and fantasized that one day they'd be calling for a "Dr. Carson."

Both Ben and his brother experienced difficulty in school. Ben fell to the bottom of his class, and became the object of ridicule by his classmates. He developed a violent and uncontrollable temper, and was known to attack other children at the slightest provocation. The poverty he lived in and the difficult times he experienced in school seem to exacerbate the anger and rage.

West Carson ticket. That should drive the libtard losers wild. We will see how tolerant they are.

Common sense rocks.

Dr Carson was on Hannity last night and Sean asked him if he had been asked to run for president. He replied if he would get a nickel for every time he had been asked he could finance his campaign with it

He seems a wonderful, compassionate, and gifted man. I’d still like to know his stances on illegal immigration, Second Amendment rights, etc. The very fact that he defines himself as an independent seems to be a clue that there are areas in which he differs with conservative positions. Many people are wonderful as humans, but I don’t want them as president, influencing policies about which I feel strongly, and, as I believe, rightly, because my beliefs follow a Constitutional construction. The Second Amendment is important, as is upholding our laws on illegal immigration.

Wonderful! Thank you for the link. Carson had mentioned his terrible temper in his speech at the Prayer Breakfast. I had no idea how terrible it really was. It just goes to show that when we earnestly ask God for help with a problem, He really does help!

I do not normally comment in a negative fashion on previous posts.

In fact, I think this is the first time ever.

But your statement is just plain silly. Are you purposely trying to be provocative, because I have been - ever so slightly - provoked. :-)

Should there have been a sarcasm tag?

Dr. Carson has a lifetime of accomplishment, extraordinary skills, has saved countless lives, and lived a life of exemplary behavior in overcoming the conditions of his youth (THANKS to his mother by the way for her mothering!).

Justin Beiber? Not so much, in any of the above categories.

If you mean, in the political sense, the latest fad?

Let me just say this to that.

As I watched his talk at the National Prayer Breakfast (which I have forwarded with commentary to my entire family), I said to myself THERE is the guy on that dais who should be President!

And I could care less that he is 7th Day Adventist, which I didn’t know until I looked into his history and upbringing.

Finally, given that he is 61 years old, he is what he is. He is not going to change who and what he is, unlike Beiber who as a youth is “evolving” if I can put it that way (and for the worse apparently).

Dr. Benjamin Carson for President? Sign me up...

:-)

Dr. Carson can now look forward to an IRS Anal Speculum Examination every year for the forseeable future.

I like him.

I do not know if he is a democrat-republican-independent, BUT I know one thing.

He is an American. A real one.

Unlike who we have now, who was raised in Indonesia for a significant part of his youth.

I totally understand and agree with others’ previous comments questioning what is Carson’s 2nd amendment stand, immigration, etc.

But after the last three Republican candidates, Dole and McCain...
(”who’s turn is it next” establishment candidates who were disasters)

and then Romney...
(who I actually think would have been fine if not perfect, and who I think really WAS robbed of the election, unlike Gore, who really lost)

Carson could be head and shoulders above them all.

After all, he clearly gets what De Tocqueville got!

“Justin Bieber”? NO.

This is a serious, truly accomplished man. A surgeon of long standing (he is 61 yrs. old); and still holds down a full work load, he and his wife started a reading project and scholarships that shows his money is where his mouth is.

He’s the man that Obama only WISHES he were. (I doubt Ben Carson is politically ambitious.)

I’m pretty sure the Ben Carson for President article title... was not very serious in the first place

...one thing I can assure you...I will not be counting the hours till Downton Abbey...nonsensical soap opera fluff incorporating male sensitivity of today into the WWI era...I watched some of it last year, and two of the major male characters burst into tears over some not so serious stuff...which likewise made me dislike “The King’s Speech”...feminine balderdash...
