The Obama administration warned on Friday that across-the-board spending cuts set to take effect in March may result in furloughing every U.S. meat and poultry inspector for two weeks, causing the meat industry to shut down.

By law, meatpackers and processors are not allowed to ship beef, pork, lamb and poultry meat without the Agriculture Department's inspection seal.

The prospect of mass furloughs of meat and food inspectors was part of a broader White House warning about the effects of the potential spending cuts on everyday life. Meatpackers said a shut-down would devastate consumers as well as their industry.

It was HIS administration that came up with this deal - Tax increases in return for budget cuts. He got his tax increases. Now, it's his turn.

The Republicans did their part. Now we're seeing Obomas part of his deal. If people don't like meat being cut, they shouldn't have voted for Oboma. It's really quite simple. If they have a complaint, talk to him about it. It's his call.

No it won’t, and no HE won’t. The feds don’t have enough people to enforce it, let alone enough people to stop deliveries. The only one’s who’ll stop are the large ag-interests who are in bed with the government, and they’ll end up suffering for their capitulation to the fed gov monster.

Copy that.
I’m all for his 47% to do without. The rest of common sense America will do just fine.

Food riots will make for some great TV and nice practical target practice.

If Obama furloughs the meat inspectors it is because he CHOOSES to do so. With a budget of over a trillion dollars the cuts can easily come from elsewhere.

Liberal ideas of cuts in spending are to spread the most pain to the most people, in order to get what they want—Higher taxes.

You are correct-(though I don't swallow communism as it died a while back).

The primary impediment to the removal of the clowns and bad seed from our government is that we are not ready. No good leaders, no supplies, no organization and lastly no Will. At present people are too busy eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating their bowels, snoring and then attending the "Games!" We have quite a task to perform before we can even dream of a proper removal of the scum presently holding office. We must-inter alia- destroy egalitarianism, restore some morals, look for leaders, organize and develop a desire to remove.

Plenty of venison and bear in the freezer. If I run out, I’ll just replenish from behind the house.

The usurper has meddled in the price of oyssters, corn, ammo, etc. Now, he’s going after meat. Anything to bring about a crisis. Anything to destroy America.

... but it doesn’t threaten tofu and arugula processors, I take it?

This is the same tactic used by municipalities to get a tax rate increase. They always threaten the very things that the voting public cares about, like police and fire departments, but not a peep about the mountain of paper shufflers and regulatory busybodies in their employ.

Don’t mean to be nit picky, but just when did communism “die?”

The collapse of the Soviet Union did NOT kill communism. It is still alive in many, many places. Places like North Korea, China (still is communist), Cuba a smattering of African countries and a large majority of universities in this country.

Communism is a political ideology, and as such cannot “die.” It will always be practiced by some group somewhere. Like in our own White House.

A glance at the CPUSA will shed some light on the vast number of people who still adhere to Marxism as a legitimate form of government.

Marxism is definitely not dead and gone, the commie pigs just want you to think so.

“Liberal ideas of cuts in spending are to spread the most pain to the most people”

Right from the old leftist playbook. But since there is so much waste, fraud and unnecessary spending, this can be easily countered - grab the microphone and ask people whether they need meat for their families, or NPR, or {fill in the blank] . . . then watch the libs squirm like the worms that they are.

The immediate thought is that supermarkets will have empty shelves where fresh beef, pork and chicken would be and that would hurt consumers and markets.

But think of all of the restaurants that advertise using only fresh not frozen meat. In-N-Out, Five Guys, Wendys, and several other fast food places advertise the same. Top end eateries rely upon daily deliveries of the freshest food to keep their reputation up.

This is a huge threat and may be the best opportunity for Republicans to show some balls and dare the President to cut off the nation’s meat supplies. It might, just might, get through to a few voters what was at stake in the last election and what lies have been fed to them by the media.

My money is on those “2 week furloughs” being 8 hours a week for 14 weeks or or 8 hours a payperiod for 14 pay periods or something like that. It doesn’t have to shut down anything.
