Strong but deep quake in Colombia (magnitude 7.0)

The U.S. Geological Survey says a strong but deep earthquake has shaken western Colombia.

The agency says the quake struck at 9:16 a.m. (1606 GMT) Saturday and had a magnitude of 7.0. it was located about 7 miles (11 kilometers) from Pasto.

There are no immediate reports of damage.

7.0 in the Santa Cruz Islands yesterday. It's almost right across the Pacific from Columbia. That's two biggies in two days.

Wow...if he felt it in Manizales, it must have damaged several cities in Cauca. Please keep us informed...

This gives an idea of how it was felt and the intensity rating for several areas.. I have friends in Popayán, so I am also trying to get more information.

These sources don’t give us much more, but at least it’s good to know that (based on the article from El Tiempo) there do not appear to be significant reports of damage in Nariño (much closer to the epicenter than Cali)...and the Governor there said it was not connected to the volcano Galeras (based on an initial report that he had received).
