Calif. mayor charged for drunken fit over milkshake, report says

(CBS) ATWATER, Calif. - Craig Mooneyham, who was filling in as mayor of Atwater, Calif., is accused of throwing a drunken fit over a $7 milkshake, CBS Sacramento reports.

According to the station, witnesses say the mayor was so mad about having to pay $7 for a banana milkshake, he started cursing and nearly got into a fight.

"He was just throwing the f-bombs and pretty much everything else," Liliana Gracian, an employee of Fosters Freeze, a fast-food chain, told the station.

Mooneyham reportedly swore he was overcharged for extra toppings and flavors.

"...He was really angry, and was like 'you're stealing from me,'" Gracian said.

The station reports Gracian said she could smell alcohol on him.

The Sacramento Bee reports the "milkshake melee" happened Jan. 26.

When other witnesses tried to calm him down, Mooneyham reportedly challenged them to a fight.

Mooneyham drove off before police arrived, but they caught up with him at his home later.

According to the police report, he came to the door wearing a t-shirt and boxers, asked police what was going on, and then asked if he could go inside and get some pants.

The station reports cops say he came back out fully-dressed and then said he had to take a phone call, went inside and locked the door, refusing to come back out.

Mooneyham, who filed papers to run for district supervisor next year, told a local paper he believes the allegations are politically motivated.

The mayor Pro Tem is charged with disturbing the peace, a misdemeanor. Police say he refused to submit to a field sobriety test when they confronted him at his home, the station reports.

It's too bad that our idiot California politicians cannot figure out that their high taxes, increased regulation and red tape result in $7.00 milkshakes...

Agree. The socialist rainbow doesn't grow on trees. When Obamacare fully kicks in it will be a $13.50 milkshake.

Atwater City Council selects new mayor pro tem

ATWATER — Councilman Craig Mooneyham picked up some extra responsibilities when he was named mayor pro tem during a meeting this week.

Mooneyham, who’s been on the council since 2010, was unanimously voted into the position. Whoever serves as mayor pro tem performs the tasks of the mayor when she’s absent.

Mooneyham said he’s going to work hard in his additional role.

“I’m truly honored to have the confidence of the mayor and the City Council to serve in that capacity,” he said.

Councilman Joe Rivero served as mayor pro tem before Mooneyham was voted in during Monday night’s meeting.

Odd. Since when it is it illegal to be drunk in your own home?

He was really angry, and was like ‘you're stealing from me,’” Gracian said.

Little competition got your goat Mayor.

So not only does his milkshake not bring all the boys to the yard it doesn’t even bring him out of the house for the police.

"Odd"? Let me explain some basic law. Ordinances differ, but a person who is proven to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs and/or causing a disturbance in a public place - as well as operating a motor vehicle in such a condition can actually be arrested and convicted. Read the story again and you'll figure it all out.

Was it required by law that he buy the $7 milkshake? Was he being held at gunpoint and forced to pay for it? Then he didn't "have to pay" for it. He was just a drunken idiot who didn't like the price. I wouldn't even be surprised if he tried to claim it should be free because he is the mayor.

Thanks DogByte6RER.
Craig Mooneyham, who was filling in as mayor of Atwater, Calif., is accused of throwing a drunken fit over a $7 milkshake... witnesses say the mayor was so mad about having to pay $7... he started cursing and nearly got into a fight... Mooneyham reportedly swore he was overcharged for extra toppings and flavors. "...He was really angry, and was like 'you're stealing from me,'" Gracian said.
Sounds like a Democrat.
When other witnesses tried to calm him down, Mooneyham reportedly challenged them to a fight... drove off before police arrived, but they caught up with him at his home later... came to the door wearing a t-shirt and boxers, asked... what was going on... asked if he could go inside and get some pants... [dressed, then] said he had to take a phone call, went inside and locked the door, refusing to come back out... told a local paper he believes the allegations are politically motivated.
Spoken like a lot of candidates running against Jack Daniels.
