Searchers struggle to pick up trail of former Los Angeles cop wanted in killing spree

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. – All that was left were footprints leading away from Christopher Dorner's burned-out pickup truck, and an enormous, snow-covered mountain where he could be hiding among the skiers, hundreds of cabins and dense woods.

More than 100 officers, including SWAT teams, were driven in glass-enclosed snow machines and armored personnel carriers to hunt for the former Los Angeles police officer suspected of going on a deadly rampage to get back at those he blamed for ending his police career.

Video of LAPD Conf at mtn site.

Then he's not there. I'd make a terribke runaway!

I'm now inclined to think he is behind his stalkers....not ahead of them...He's become the watcher....

Things are worse than previously suspected.

“Dorner served in the Naval Reserves, earning a rifle marksman ribbon and pistol expert medal. He served in a naval undersea warfare unit and various aviation training units...”

A “naval undersea warfare unit” could mean anything from a Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit (MIUWU) to several other type units, to the SEALs.

I doubt it is the former, because in his manifesto he mentioned “small arms training, demolition, ordinance(sic) and survival training”. This raises estimates of his potential lethality by 10x.

If it includes an ability to access and use helicopters or fixed wing aircraft, 100x.

While it has not been stated as such, there are indications that he might have some degree of PTSD, though officially he only served in Bahrain in 2006 and 2007, that was likely just his assigned duty station. Navy personnel were used extensively in Iraq as infantry and in other combat roles.

Drone strikes? Burned-out pickup truck? Could have already started.

Wow!

That thought hadn't even occurred to me yet.

I forgot that under this administration we have to start thinking the unthinkable.

The LA times reported that “ a citizen reported finding property belonging to Dorner on a street near Lindbergh Field, not far from the scene of the attempted boat theft. The property included a briefcase and Dorner’s LAPD badge.”

My question is how can an LAPD officer fired in 2008 still have a LAPD badge? Something is really fishy here. What is the evidence that Dorner did any of the things they say he has done? They say he is wanted in connection with these crimes, but where is the proof that he is the one who committed them?

They will be bringing out the drones, no doubt. This will be an excellent example of the current US policy of drone strikes on citizens without due process.

The LEOs definitely sound scared, and after what they did to those 2 mistaken pick-up trucks yesterday, no one’s safe (relative term) until that Dorner guy is room temp, and the cops just go back to shooting family dogs (sadly).

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Mexican authorities planted a MANPAD, tracable back to Benghazi, in the vicinity of Dormer.

Good morning.

Methinks this guy planned everything for a long time. From hidden weapons caches, different modes of transportation, target selection to ambush sites. Probably has some SERE training too.

This will probably go on a long time, and if he has any force multipliers, the casualty list will grow quickly. He will kill again, and won't be taken alive.

Yup!

Tony was an EXCELLENT writer; able to capture the essense of the southwest in such a way that I can remember the smell of the rain upon the rocks as he wrote about it!

I’ve read everything he’s put out!

RIP, Tony!

LA police dept said he did them.... They can say anything they want, as they go around murdering, or trying to murder, innocent people in pick-up trucks.

How do you know he dropped it?

I don’t think he’s a nutcase either. If he was, he would have shot the old man out of simple anger. But he didn’t.

I’m not saying he is right. But until ALL information is out you should not jump to conclusions.

Look at what the LAPD just did. SHOT 2 LADIES delivering newspapers. Upthread, someone stated they shot at 2 trucks (I did not hear about the 2nd).

He named names. Is anyone investigating his claims? Perhaps if they did, his killing spree would stop.

But of course they won’t because it just may expose the LAPD for what he claims is going on.

He mentions his girl partner, using excessive force on a mentally ill “perp”. This girl, if I remember correctly, was also cited for excessive force a couple of times.

Is there now a BOUNTY?

WANTED: Dead or Alive

They do NOT want him alive.

NOT NOT NOT NOT

Alive means a trial.

A trial will shine entirely too much daylight on LAPD's culture.

Although Our Gay in Washington may want to break the back of local law enforcement the better to instal his federal National Civilian Community Corps (the NatCs) the LAPD does not.

The same way I have souvenir badges from most places I've worked, even though I diligently turned one in at the end of each job.
