Nuclear war over Rove's claims to work for Reagan; Gipper biographer says no

Paul Bedard

The war of words between conservatives and former Bush advisor Karl Rove has gone nuclear, this time over Rove's claim that he worked for Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign and on a Reagan advisory board.

The bottom line: While Rove told The O'Reilly Factor Thursday that he worked for the Gipper, Reagan's acclaimed biographer Craig Shirley says there's no evidence to back Rove up.

Worse: In an email Shirley is sending to conservative leaders, he reveals that Rove backed former President Ford in 1976 and in 1980 worked for former Texas governor Clements who didn't back Reagan until after he was nominated.

Shirley penned the book about Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign, Rendezvous with Destiny, and today said he confirmed his research about Rove with several former Reagan campaign aides...

Thanks. For a more humorous slant:

The Liberal Agenda Media loves nothing more than to demonize debate on viewpoints that are different from theirs.

The maturity level of a Liberal is that of a teenager, Ben Stein calls it “Juvenile.”

Middle-of-the-road guys like me that believe that there should be NO Federal borrowing, “selling” of US Bonds, or anything else that causes the damned Federal Government to live beyond its means, are wasting our time reasoning with Liberals.

While the Liberals couch all of our reasoned discussions as “wedge” issues that will splinter the GOP, we need to continue to focus on where WE as the GOP has gone onto the wrong track.

Let us consider that the GOP is a football team. One of the Assistant Coaches is Karl Rove. Karl’s strong suit is the Buckley Rule: “Support your team mates if : 1) They are athletes that you like, and 2.) If you think they can win the next game.”

[Note: the real Buckley Rule is: “ Support the most Conservative candidate, who can be elected. In the last election the GOP followed the Buckley Rule to the letter and chose Socialist, Father of Romney”care,” never-attack-your-opponent, wussy, Mitter-or-Mutter Romney.]

Back to GOP Football. Ass. Coach Rove picks out his choices for the O-Line, and to a man they agree that there is no sense playing any game this season because there is no way that they can win the Football Game. The Opposition has just to many bad things to say and print in their news shows and newspapers, well -— - - - it is just to hard!

The sponsors, (you and me), of this GOP Team are tired of the self-defeating Buckley Rule, and want the rule and Ass. Coach Rove sent back to the locker room where the trainers can work some sense in Rove.

Quarterback Boehner does not like some players, and has already sent 3 of them to warm up the bench. Q. Boehner is driven to tears fearing that Middle Line Backer Reid knows all of Boehner’s passing routes. Reid’s team does not play fair! Boo-hoo!

Earlier this year in the Sequester Bowl, Q. Boehner clutched up and called to many time outs that his team had negative yardage due to delay of game penalties.

Quarterback Boehner is still convinced that the upcoming Debt Ceiling Superbowl cannot be won due to statements of smug victory in the Puppet Liberal Agenda Media by Coach Obama and Middle Line Backer Reid.

Quarterback Boehner is considering polling the solid RINOs on his team to find out whether or not they can beat Reid and Obama.

Right now it looks like the RINO team members are leaning toward postponing the Debt Ceiling Superbowl until Reid and Obama start to say nice things about them.

Coach Obama’s outgoing Waterboy Timmy Geihtner, has assured his replacement that RINOs on a team make it easy to manipulate them.

Geihtner claims that all you have to do is hold a Puppet Press Conference and just say “NO!”

There are quite a few, but let’s start with Ted Cruz.

I beg to differ, I am a news junky and I have not come across Rove attacking Cruz. Supporting Cruz’s opponent is not attacking Cruz unless one is thin skinned. In any primary election, every one should vigorously support their choice.
Have you got any links to Rove attacking Cruz in the general election against the democrat? That would change my opinion of Rove 180 degrees.

I supported Cain & then Newt during the primaries but in the general I voted the nominee of the party. That does not make me attacking Romney.

Karl Rove was Steve Schmidt’s mentor.

Rove was behind the bashing of Palin during the McCain campaign by Schmidt and Wallace because Rove knew that if Palin got in as VP, Jeb would have to wait possibly 12 or 16 years to get his chance at the Presidency.

List of money contributed by Karl Rove’s Crossroads PAC
during the 2012 Senate campaigns:

$2.9 Million to Marco Rubio

$2.7 Million to Rand Paul

$8.0 Million to Ken Buck

$5.1 Million to Sharon Angle

$1.4 Million to Toomey

$5.0 Million to Mourdock

$3.3 Million to Akin

Figures speak louder than words?

Surely Karl Rove is not my cup of tea. But I am past hating
or attacking any republican as taught to me by Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment. But I will also not attack any poster simply because they can’t stand Rove.

Rove and his elitist circle are the biggest enemies out there for us, because of them they make it harder for conservatives to be elected and have a conservative country.

As for who has he attacked, oh Palin comes to mind right away, where was he defending Col Allen West, how about Angel .

Rove and his elitist pals care about their own power and that is why they would rather attack our side than actually fight the radical left over socialist , commie 60’s hippies

Please see post #126.

I do not support politically un-electable candidates either.
That does not make me anti-conservative. That makes me politically astute. I like winning. I hate losing. It is a simple philosophy which serves well in life.

I read it and never said you were anti conservative I said Rove and his ilk attacked Palin and boy did thye do a good job of that.

Rove and his elitist pals will do anything to save their power and stop conservativs from being elected.

As for you hate losing, well when the likes of Rove get their guys into power you lose and it does ot mean a damn if they have an R at the end of their name.

We’ve been losing for decades because we have an elitist snotty nosed group like Rove, Krauthammer, Perino, etc who all would rather attack good honest hard working down to earth , know how the hard working blue collar class work than attack the lunatic socliasts who they cozy up to.

Hell look what they did to Newt, Sarah, Angel, Col ,Allen West, we lost they won and when they guys lose like Romney through massive fraud too then they don;t say anything or even fight back.

Every one on that list whom Rove spent money for, is a fairly good conservative. Actions speak for themselves.

As for Sarah Palin, Newt, Col West, Christine O’Donnell, Michelle Bachmann, I love them all dearly. I even sent contributions to some of them. But they all lost general elections or primaries. It is time to move on. Don’t know enough about Sharon Angle to make an intelligent comment.

Once any candidate loses, they become powerless and largely irrelevant.

Folks like Rove make it possible for more Dems to win by splitting the base and forcing crap RINO candidates down our throats.

Very good point! You’re the first one to actually do a great job articulating this.
