The question in both our minds, you and I is likely this:
“ What will it take for America to wake up?”

The how of revolution then becomes the issue.
Secession, can be a big factor, however it will likely gain little traction.
I propose an effort to undermine the Government.
I propose redirecting the efforts and message of the anarchists.
I know it may seem crazy, however, we have a group that is naturally distrustful of Government, they are ready and willing to show up virtually anywhere to protest.
If they can get behind a message of individuality, and take that message to the streets, libertarians will support them.

Next week I’m going to a long-time-coming ceremony for an old friend. He’s finally getting a Purple Heart and Prisoner of War Medal for his services in Vietnam, as a civilian.
His name is Mike Benge, former (always) Marine, then an Agency for International Development official in Central Vietnam, responsible for reforestation projects and job creating work, often for the Montagnards, and other duties as the chief AID official in that part of II Corps.
He was captured 45 years ago this month while on a mission to get all of his staff out of the way of the North Vietnamese/VC offensive at Tet. He got 11 teams out safely and was checking on the 12th (if my memory is correct), when he was captured by the PAVN. His team had gotten away but he didn’t know it so he out to check on them.
As he said, his .32 gun didn’t encourage his resistance to 6 AK-47’s aimed right at him. (Talk about gun control). He endured about one year as a POW on the Ho Chi Minh Trail (SVN, Laos, No. Vietnam), often kept in a real communist “Tiger Cage”, before he got to the Hanoi Hilton for the next 4 years of Five Star accomodations.
His fellow POWS on the Trail, including a civilian doctor and a nurse, died because the communists refused to give them proper medical care and food.
He endured harsh treatment at the hands of the North Vietnamese (inlcuding LUMP) and possibly the Cuban torturer who he later identified at congressional hearings (about which the Clinton Administration did nothing).
After spending many decades at AID and aiding in the POW/MIA task force efforts, Mike finally retired after more than 30 years of government service.
I met him when he got back to the US in mid-1973 and have been friends ever since.
He is Jane Fonda’s biggest fan (of her getting justice for her treason), and that line is very long. Mike is also one of the longest, active people in the POW/MIA accountability projects, never giving up hope of recovering our men (including those who were know to be alive on the ground and in PAVN hands).
He was also an advisor for the movie “Apocalypse Now” before telling off the director for his ridiculous depictions of American soldiers and tactics. Also was the inspiration for the movie “Dumbo Lift”, about bringing an elephant from one part of SVN to the highlands to help in the logging business (the movie is not what happened other than it involved moving an elephant around to a new working place, but that is Hollyweird for you).
Hey Mike, next time, I’m buying the pizza for you and Scott Swett (Swiftboatvets webmaster and co-author of “To Set the Record Straight” about John Kerry’s made-up Purple Heart activities in VN).
You’ve more than earned the Purple Heart, many times over, and you remain an inspiration to American military personnel after all these years. I saw this in person when we went to Larry Baily’s first “Gathering of Eagles” rally in DC.
To FRpers: When other Viet vets saw his POW insignia on his hat, they gave he great big hugs of respect for what he had gone thru. And they were veterans of some of the worst fighting of the war.
If there was ever a “Band of Brothers” from Vietnam, they were together that day in D.C. and Mike Benge was in the center of them.
