Chanting at Camarillo High basketball game sparks rally, racism concerns (Chanting USA! USA!)

The four students wearing the bandannas came to the Scorpion Dome for the JV and varsity rivalry games. Valenzuela said that between the games, an associate principal came over to the stands and warned students not to curse or make racial comments. The school official saw the bandannas and told the four students to remove them or leave, Valenzuela said.

The four went outside, then ran back inside the gym at halftime with their bandannas on and began chanting “USA, USA.” The four were ushered out and given five-day suspensions, which were later rescinded, Valenzuela said.

Asking the students to remove the bandannas was a precaution, Lipman said. The two high schools have diverse student bodies, Lipman said, and the chant could be interpreted in different ways.

Wearing patriotic clothing is acceptable, Lipman said, but the chanting gave him pause.

“We wanted to make sure (the chant) wasn’t racially motivated, and I told the kids I just want to be sensitive to the feelings of everybody,” Lipman said. “If we’re doing it for patriotism, that’s fine. But if we’re doing it for something else that’s racially motivated, I’m not going to allow that.”

Welcome to Acirema, where chanting “USA, USA” is insensitive and possibly racist. God help us, even though we’ve passed the tipping point.

Only in Obama’s America could chanting ‘USA, USA’ be considered racist.

"Tu mama si puta", is not racist but might not garner a welcome from the undocumented bastards.

This man thinks chanting USA is racially motivated. How disgusting.

Hooray for those 4 Americans.

Comments disabled at the source. Well, that’s totally surprising...not. The fishwrap obviously can’t let out that the majority of local LEGAL residents probably back these kids to the hilt.

It would have been OK for the other side to chant “Mehico” though.

This is stupid as “Valenzeula” is an Hispanic surname. The pointing was probably about something else. My daughter graduated from this school.

It would have been OK for the other side to chant “Mehico” though.

A few years back, we were enjoying July 4th at Grapevine Lake. Before the fireworks began, someone at a nearby site shouted "Viva Mexico!"

In turn, I shouted back, "Viva Los Estados Unidos!"

Crickets...lol.

I’m so damn sick of these quislings and their concerns over “sensitivity.” I have news for him, LIFE is insensitive, and nobody has the right to think they can go through it without being offended by somebody.

I wonder if he’d show the same quivering worry if someone got called a gringo.

Actually my sympathies lie with the principal, who seemed to have done everything right. First some background.

1) The students intended to agitate and create trouble, even violence. Patriotism had nothing to do with this. They could have been yelling “Donuts!”, and if the other team saw that as offensive enough to get angry about it, it would be a problem.

2) The principal warned them beforehand that he did not want them to agitate. Supporting your team is one thing, attacking the opposing team is something else. But after appearing to comply, they disrupted the halftime with their demonstration.

3) Despite their efforts, the disruptive students did not accomplish their goal, and subsequently, the principal saw no need to punish them for it. Also a wise move on his part.

4) The leader of the students is *still* trying to agitate, using social media to do so. I’ve got no sympathy for him or his attempt to create trouble, as the purpose of a *game* is to play a *game*, not start fights.

The fact that the principal thought the USA chant was provocative proves that he thought the other team was “too Mexican”. He’s the true racist.
