The Root Cause of Gun Violence
American Spectator ^ | 2.6.13 | Peter Ferrara

If Obama & Co. are helpless to prevent gang warfare, what are they doing trying to disarm the law-abiding?

Aside from a few, brave, truth-tellers, all of the discussion in Washington boils down to one theme — Why More Power and Money Should Be Transferred from You to Me.

Of course, the sophists never say that directly. They always say it is for the children, or the poor, or the middle class, or the elderly, or the sick. But watch what they do, not what they say. In the end, every Washington Establishment initiative, proposal, or campaign is always aimed at the same result — power and money taken from you, to be given to them.

The money doesn’t have to go to them to be spent by them. It enhances their power if the money goes to them to distribute, and so determine who spends it. They will siphon off money enough for themselves in the process. But all the talk in Washington is really about who gets the power.

And so it is with Barack Obama’s traveling gun control salvation tour.

The Limits of Barack Obama’s Power

Whenever Barack Obama talks, he tells us that whatever he believes is just common sense. And what anyone who disagrees with him says...

--snip--

If we want to reduce gun violence further, more concealed carry permits are the answer, as John Lott demonstrated in his breakthrough book, More Guns, Less Crime. Mass school shootings would be further reduced by paying teachers bonuses to take concealed carry permit training, and bringing their concealed guns to school to be available for self-defense.

And extending welfare reform to all federal means tested welfare programs, requiring work by the able bodied for welfare, would begin to address fatherlessness as the root cause of gun violence.

"The problem is that the map on the left is an old election map."

Unfortunate. I suspect that the meme presented is probably close to the truth. Perhaps this will inspire someone (John Lott?) to gather the statistics for a similar map. The info is certainly available from DOJ on-line.

Compeletly agree.

Despite the map being an old election map, I suspect it’s very close to the truth.

Nice graphic, but worthless without sources and, as another posted said, methodology used for the “gun violence” map. It matches a bit too closely with the electoral map. Not saying it isn’t accurate, but without sourcing, it isn’t of much use.

Here’s a couple of other ones from the only source of true wisdom:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jer. 17:9. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 Funny how our Founders knew all of this stuff. I wonder... were they wiser than our generation? Is it any wonder we are where we are at as a nation - that lawlessness abounds? How can it be anything other that what it is? We hate God and His righteous character. We’ll try anything, and I do mean anything, except His solutions. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest . Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matt. 11:28-30 Spoken by the “Man of Sorrows” himself. His arms are still extended towards you America but your time is running out.

Thank you.
Our founding fathers lived, studying the Bible.
Take a look at The Founding Fathers on Jesus, Christianity and the Bible and David Barton and the "WallBuilders".
I think you'll really like them.

For dressing up your comments, I recommend It'll help us old FReepers read your post. My eyes ain't what they use to be.

Here's where the gun violence graphic first came to my attention. It was an eye-catching image posted by longtime and highly-trusted FReeper onyx in FReepathon thread XIV. The full URL to the image she posted is:

I have been unable, thus far, to find any further information about its origin and the underlying statistics (aside from the FBI citation) upon which the maps were based.

That said, the graphic certainly does pass the "smell test". Those regions that vote Democrat are typically low in weapon ownership due to draconian gun restrictions. Consequently, it is logical that the rates of gun-related violence would index higher since good citizens have little means to protect themselves against outlaws and thugs. Conversely, states such as Oklahoma where not a single county went for Obama in either 2008 or 2012 have high rates of lawful gun ownership and, of course, it follows that violence due to guns is very low. And since I'm here in Texas, I can attest, based on admittedly anecdotal evidence, that gun violence is nearly always restricted to the liberal areas, such as the heavily-Mexican, heavily-Democrat Rio Grande Valley. By way of contrast, the predominately Christian and Conservative city of Plano, Texas has a very high rate of gun ownership. Resultantly, it's the safest city in America.

Yes, it would be optimal to get the raw data behind the map (shown below as a courtesy to all to reexamine) but based upon all that I have seen and applying dispassionate logic, it does reflect reality in my opinion.

Too bad.
I’d love for it to be true.
Shouldn’t be hard to find a 2012 electoral map.

LOL I’m liking that idea. Might make a good video game even.
