BREAKING: Obama to hand over drone documents ahead of Hagel hearing

Posted by CNN White House Producer Lesa Jansen

Washington (CNN) - Amid new controversy over his administration's targeted killing of American citizens, President Barack Obama has yielded to demands from Congress to turn over to them classified Justice Department legal advice justifying the policy.

The president's move comes on the eve of confirmation hearings Thursday for his CIA director-nominee John Brennan, and complaints from senators - including several Democrats - about secrecy surrounding the drone policy.

Killing Americans without due process? Who cares, they’ve been declared enemy combatants. The Republic is dead.

We don’t know what he’s handing over but chances are it’s worthless and self-serving to his agenda. Nothing comes from this WH without a calculated bet they will reap a political reward of some sort.

What is the original source of the drone-killing memo, in the first place?

Anyone know?

Was it leaked?

Mods please fix the title. It should say “Brennan hearing” not “Hagel hearing”

Perhaps it was originally wrong on the CNN link but it has been corrected on CNN now.

Thanks, I alerted them as well. They were quick, it’s fixed.

It said Hagel in the original, you can still see it in the link:

“is a policy paper rather than an official legal document.”

and

“Memo backs U.S. using lethal force against Americans overseas”

So, the President wants it both ways. Which is it, not a legal document or it is a legal document? These lawyers always try to protect themselves by taking both sides.

If it is not a legal document, how can it back the President? What is his legal authority? Can he have an illegal policy that kills people in conflict with both the U.S. Constitution and International Law and not be in violation of U.S. Law and not be guilty of war crimes? Isn’t there something called due process missing somewhere here?

No doubt these documents will be irrelevant, prior policies, or doctored.

I doubt seriously the kenyan marxist would hang himself. This is but another smoke and mirrors move to attempt to put a lid on this and attempt to thwart further actions with a claim that all documents were released and already discussed.

The documents are meaningless -get some actual witnesses that made decisions and prosecuted the policy.

..

Remember - Homeland Security has already said that our trained American combat Vets coming home are likely to be dangerous home-grown terrorists when they return home to civilian life.

At that point Obama could simply nail them with a drone on the suspicion that they are a danger to......

Obama always says “I want/know” - or “according to ‘polls’ most of the NRA members want more background checks and ‘reasonable’ regulations”

- Hasan #2 never says “This is what is constitutional and legal....”

He says “I will go under the radar” to Sarah Brady -

Remember how every air strike under GW Bush “killed dozens of innocent civilians at a wedding party”?

..

Starting to think this whole drone leak and now document drop are to take the focus off of Benghazi at today’s hearing. It is just too convenient. This administration never hands over anything!! Now suddenly they are releasing documents before a big hearing and a few left wing media shills are writing articles on drones today? I hope the republicans are not fooled by the new shiny object.

Homeland security has named just about every political enemy of obama as a potential terrorist.

baraq is going to punish his enemies while rewarding his friends. He has more flexibility now. Lots of stuff under the radar. When the political winds turn ugly in the middle east, he will stand with islam.
And on and on.

Yeah, I know all that. After much thought, I figure they have given up their right to "due process" as an out-country combatant working for another regime or agency.

I'm still having trouble understanding why the murdering Islamist Hassan has not been tried and executed for the Ft. Hood massacre. In a just world, he would have been tried, convicted, and sentenced within a month. Is there any possible doubt about his culpability? What happened to swift military justice? Oh right, lawyers.

Of course it’s BS to be able to kill anyone unless you know for a fact they are about kill you. But killing Americans without any knowledge of an imminent attack is flat out murder. When liberals like Bob Beckel say it’s murder and liberals like Dennis Kucinich say it’s murder, and agree with conservatives, well then it’s murder. It’s also unconstitutional, but the Constitution is something the Kenyan King has no use for, so he disregards the rule of law.

But, let’s not forget that it was RINO George W. Bush who put this in motion to start with after 9/11. The policy of containment and detente that we had lived with since the end of WW2 was a thing of the past. The Bush administration, in attempting to justify attacking Iraq, said they had the right to attack any country on the face of the earth if they felt like that country was a threat to the US. No proof need be necessary. Obama has only taken it one step further, he thinks he has the right and the power to kill any person, INCLUDING AMERICANS, who he thinks are a threat to the security of the United States. Once again, having clear-but proof of an imminent attack is not part of the equation. The president is the one who makes the call, after all only he knows who needs to die and who needs to live. And just think I always thought James Bond was the only person with a license to kill. All Hail 007 Barack Bond.

“I figure they have given up their right to “due process” as an out-country combatant working for another regime or agency.”

And you would be correct.

A person who is an America citizen, working for a terrorist organization such as AQ or an AQ affilliate, deserves to be killed.

Just like a citizen who left for Germany during WWII to fight for the Nazi regime, should be killed in battle, not put in the court system.

This “conservative” reflex against this policy is just anti Obama numbness. This policy should be supported, just as the Drone strikes into Pakistan should be supported.
