Kasich embrace of Obamacare program angers some conservatives
CNN ^

Posted on 02/05/2013 10:59:32 AM PST by Perdogg

By accepting the provision included in President Barack Obama's health care law expanding federal Medicaid funding, Ohio Gov. John Kasich joined four fellow Republican governors in welcoming part of a program their party has campaigned vehemently against.

He also drew the ire of some Republican activists, who had viewed him as a model of small government conservatism and a potential candidate for the 2016 presidential nomination.

Marshal Petain stands for nothing other than wanting to win elections and stay in power.

Principles? Whats that?

The Democrats demand this of me, so I must do it.

Its not Like I'm in opposition to them or anything, or the fact that when the Repubs win big the liberals NEVER lie down or give up.

They want us to more like the Democrats? Fine lets start by mimicking that.

This may not be as bad as it sounds.

To defeat a liberal you must first give them everything they want. When the system crashes, you pick up the pieces and start over....painful, but efficacious.......

I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I were Kasich. Like it or not, Ohio is a blue state. If Kasich stands in the way of ObamaClaus, then Kasich will be kicked to the curb by the voters. There is nothing a taker hates more than someone who attempts to stand between them and “their” free stuff.

On one hand, if Kasich stands on principle, he’ll be out of a job. But, he will go down fighting the right fight.

On the other hand, if he caves on this, (and he has), perhaps he can fight for other conservative issues, provided he’s re-elected.

The last option is that he’s a Joe Scarborough type conservative who is more concerned about his job than anything else.

Surrender: Ohio Gov. Kasich Spurns Tea Party, Backs Obamacare Medicaid Expansion; Left Celebrates

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican who campaigned as a budget hawk and rode the Tea Party wave to victory in 2010, has agreed to accept Obamacare funding to expand his state’s Medicaid program, breaking ranks with fellow Republican governors and the Tea Party that elected him.

Kasich’s decision, announced yesterday, could encourage other Republican governors to do the same, joining the five who have done so already.

Originally, the Obamacare law forced states to expand their Medicaid programs. Many cash-strapped states objected, and joined the Obamacare lawsuit that the Supreme Court decided last year. One of the few bright spots for conservatives in an otherwise devastating (and, many argued, poorly reasoned) decision was that the Court affirmed the 10th Amendment right of states to opt out of the Medicaid portion of Obamacare.

I can list you some Republicans who won’t betray you. I didn’t say they’re the majority among Congressional Repulicans, but they are the true Republicans because true Republicans are Conservatives.

The name Republican isn’t the problem, just like the word gun isn’t the problem.

Sorry, but the onus is on Rush and Mark Levin to tell us why we should stay Republicans. What has our loyalty earned other than a sore butt?

I will not under any circumstances vote for John Kasich for any office. ObamaCare is an unforgivable betrayal.

Kasich isn't the first Republican to sign on to the Obamacare provision – he joins Jan Brewer of Arizona, Brian Sandoval of Nevada, Susana Martinez of New Mexico, and Jack Dalrymple of North Dakota in endorsing the Medicaid expansion. In total, 19 states and the District of Columbia will accept the expanded federal funds.

Governors Chris Christie of New Jersey and Bob McDonnell of Virginia, also potential presidential candidates, have yet to detail their plans on the Medicaid expansion.

Sorry to hear this about Brewer, Kasich and Dalrymple. There was reason to hope their stances on principles could withstand the financial and political pressures being brought against them.

Divide and conquer.

Obamacare is positioned so that it will end up neutralizing Republican governors like Kasich that will either buy into it or fight and be dumped by voters who will see them - with the medias willing help - as obstacles to 'free' health care. As more Republican governors cave, and they surely will (they're Republicans) the other Republican governors will find it easier to cave, too. The result? Socialism wins, America loses.

'If Kasich stands in the way of ObamaClaus, then Kasich will be kicked to the curb by the voters."

Pretty much sums it up. Kasich narrowly won the governorship in 2010 and was repudiated at the polls for his effort at union busting. His re-election battle is going to be uphill at best. Kasich is also being pragmatic.Short of open rebellion, the ACA is the law of the land and will not be repealed or modified in anyway until 2017 at the earliest. I am sure many Ohio business leaders put pressure on the Gov to expand Medicaid so that they may dump as many of their employees into the cesspool. It is my opinion that many Corporations advocated for the ACA as much as the pResident.

If only that was the way it worked. You describe the Cloward Piven strategy. Overburden the system until it collapses. However, what they predict will happen is that the once the system collapses, people will turn to their savior (aka, whoever promises to step in and take care of them)

The thinking is that when people realize that the ship is sinking, they are past the point of talking about ship design, they will simply vote for the man handing out life jackets.

Mark Levin is disgusted with Republicans as well and is ripping them almost daily on his show.

Rush has been hard on them too..you won’t see these two promoting (establishment)party unity.

Nearly everything I’ve read makes this sound like a done deal but I think the state legislature has to approve Kasich’s budget. We’ll see if any of them have the spine to stand up for conservative principles.
