Stuttaford and NRO passes on a report from Der Spiegel:
One of the arguments for the EU’s “ever closer” union is that if momentum towards the quasi-federal something (that so few actually want) is not maintained, Europe will revert to war, extremism and the other horrors of its past.

Fortunately the genius of the single currency and ‘one size fits all’ has made this an impossibility.

Take this story from Der Spiegel:

The Greek right-wing extremist party Golden Dawn has established contacts with German neo-Nazis in Bavaria. The group, which is represented in Greek parliament, is also attempting to set up a cell in the southern German state. The Greek right-wing extremist party Golden Dawn is establishing close contacts with Bavarian neo-Nazis and began setting up a cell in Nuremberg last year. The party, known in Greek as Chrysi Avgi, even held a conference in the southern German city recently. Bavaria’s state intelligence agency is particularly interested in meetings that have been taking place between right-wing extremists from Greece and those in Bavaria…

Golden Dawn is led by Nikolaos Michaloliakos and has called for a revolution in Greece and an “ethnically pure” nation. Members of the party are accused of physically attacking immigrants and members of the country’s left-wing. They also regularly stage intimidating marches, wearing military uniforms and singing Nazi chants, in immigrant neighborhoods of Athens. Support for the party has increased following the debt crisis and the radical austerity measures imposed on Greece by international lenders. Golden Dawn won seats in parliament for the first time in last year’s election and is currently polling at 12 percent.

Oh.

Keep calm. All is well.

This is what happens. When socialists exhaust their playbook, fascists step in.

We skip a step in this country. Most of the elected run for office pretending to be socialists (assuming the populist mantle), but when elected, govern as fascists.

Let me get this straight. The Socialists are worried because Socialist policy has brought about Socialist behavior. And as good little Socialists, they try to blame their opponents for this...

Amazing that the EU “peace project” invariably leads to the rise of groups like this. In the judgment, Alfred Nobel will be their biggest accusers, as he will towards all warmongers to whom the “peace prize” in his name has been given.

Since the German Nazi’s were defeated, they have been completely discredited. Consequently, Nazi’s are universally regarded as evil.

But why were the Nazi’s any worse than the godless socialists under Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Castro, etc?

Socialism (including National Socialism) is evil in all of its varied manifestations. The idea of one group of socialists holding themselves morally superior to another is absurd at best. Socialism strives towards secular, amoral relativism which devolves in practice into pure, concentrated evil.

“The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it”, (Jeremiah 17:9).

Instead of the “foreign” swastika they opt for the Greek “key” as their symbol. I’ll give them points on originality.

I don’t know which they hate more, Jews or Capitalists, or is it that they see the two as inter-changeable?

Watched the tape and didn't see any marching, lots of smoke and flags, but zippo marching. Their monotone barking (sounding like poorly trained dogs) screwed up what otherwise could have been a good drinking song.

That's the kind of thing you get when your economy does a "swirlly" down the poop chute.

Regards,
GtG

The chilling part is that I’m not sure how big a difference there is between their socialists and ours. The far left extremists like to pretend that national socialism is the exact opposite of soviet socialism, but the over-sized government controls the means of production in both systems, the over-sized government controls people by using selective enforcement of a plethora of incomprehensible laws in both systems, and the over-sized government has concentration camps or the equivalent gulags in both systems. With Obama in power, we should be as worried as the Greeks.

This movement is a predictable, indeed inevitable result of socialism/progressivism. The original fascism was that of Mussolini, who was a top guy in the Italian Socialist Party pre-WWI. Benito ran their newspaper. To Mussolini, fascism was basically pro-war socialism. "International" socialism, where nations and peoples give up their own uniqueness and economic advantages to the international proletariat simply does not hold up.

Hitler's "National" socialism (socialists like to deny Hitler's socialism) arose in the country that had the largest, wealthiest and most powerful labor (socialist) movement in the world. American progressives (socialists) said for decades, that "Germany was 50 years ahead of us, because of Germany's implementation of socialism.

Other countries in Europe all had their "international" (communist/socialist) movements and "national" movements. England had Oswald Moseley's movement, Hungary and Romania both had powerful fascist movements.

People react to having foreign power, foreign people and loss of national sovereignty. Greece has had the Euro, the EU and IMF imposed on them. If you are unwilling to give up statism and you want national self-determination, Golden Dawn is the logical result. Mass immigration has been forced on the Greeks (and others) by the same folks, who have forced EU regulations, Euro currency and foreign domination on Greece.

Golden Dawn-style movements and political success will be coming to additional countries in Europe.

The political elites have demonized pro-Freedom folks like Geert Wilders in Holland, Thilo Sarazin in Germany, Le Pen in France, Demokraten in Sweden, etc. They demonize any positive alternative to their international top-down socialist control. They can only end up with nationalized socialist movements.

I wonder about this. There are very few Jews in Greece (est 5,000).

There are many Muslims (est 370,000). There are many illegal alien Muslims especially from Turkey and Baltics. I think this movement is about Muslims not Jews.

“The day after the elections, Greece’s Jewish community is still trying to make sense of the results and new facts, and is cautious about drawing conclusions about the stunning gains notched by the militant, ultra-nationalist party which seeks to restore Greece’s national pride and expel foreigners. Asked about the first, postelection step to be taken by his party, Nikolaos Michaloliakos - Golden Dawn’s founder and chairman - responded: “All illegal immigration will be stopped. They [foreigners] will have to leave - they must leave.”

snip

“Saltiel added: “Right now, Golden Dawn is not coming out against Jews; instead, it attacks immigrants.”
