RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Online activists in Saudi Arabia are calling for harsher punishments for child abuse after reports that a prominent cleric received only a light sentence after confessing to the beating death of his 5-year-old daughter. *** Saudi media reports say Fayhan al-Ghamdi, a frequent guest on Islamic TV programs, was arrested in November on charges of killing the girl. The reports said he questioned the child's virginity.
Saudi media say he was freed last week after serving a short prison term and agreeing to pay $50,000 in "blood money" to avoid a possible death sentence.
The money was presumably offered to the girl's mother or other relatives.

Perhaps his brother made frequent visits to his home and he knew his brother well?
i read several versions of this story but nobody had those details. Sickening. where did u find them?

It's important for a father to know in Islam. The father approves the marriage. If the husband finds out the daughter is not a virgin on the wedding night, he probably will demand a refund of the bride-price (mahr). This is something for Muslim dads to avoid. Since a non-virgin daughter will not fetch a good bride-price, they are economically valueless and are often killed.
She could have been raped by a brother or cousin. Of course, in their sick view, that would have been her fault.
I wonder if any mullah has ever been executed for a crime? Adulterers, homosexuals and others who violate the Sharia code are executed but what happens when a muslim cleric commits a crime?
This was the love and understanding for her suffering she received at the hands of her father.
