Top G.O.P. Donors Seek Greater Say in Senate Races (Rove Targets Tea Party)
The New York Times ^ | Saturday, February 2, 2013 | Jeff Zeleny

Posted on 02/03/2013 8:15:49 AM PST by kristinn

The biggest donors in the Republican Party are financing a new group to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts who Republican leaders worry could complicate the party’s efforts to win control of the Senate.

The group, the Conservative Victory Project, is intended to counter other organizations that have helped defeat establishment Republican candidates over the last two election cycles. It is the most robust attempt yet by Republicans to impose a new sense of discipline on the party, particularly in primary races.

“There is a broad concern about having blown a significant number of races because the wrong candidates were selected,” said Steven J. Law, the president of American Crossroads, the “super PAC” creating the new project. “We don’t view ourselves as being in the incumbent protection business, but we want to pick the most conservative candidate who can win.”

The effort would put a new twist on the Republican-vs.-Republican warfare that has consumed the party’s primary races in recent years. In effect, the establishment is taking steps to fight back against Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations that have wielded significant influence in backing candidates who ultimately lost seats to Democrats in the general election.

The first test of the group’s effort to influence primary races could come here in Iowa, where some Republicans are already worrying about who will run for the seat being vacated by Senator Tom Harkin, a Democrat. It is the first open Senate seat in Iowa since 1974, and Republicans are fearful of squandering a rare opportunity.

“...the establishment is taking steps to fight back against Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations...”

This should read: Socialist/Progressive “establishment” soliciting funds from anti-Conservatives to destroy America.

The group, the Conservative RINO Victory Project...

Fixed.

Do these idiots understand that they are poking a stick into a hornet's nest?

So let me get this straight - the same folks who destroyed the GOP brand during the Bush era, and who pushed the one candidate Obama could beat in 2012, have issues with the Tea Party, which put the GOP back in power in the House, over a couple of marginal candidates.

Rove is a very slow learner...or he just wants to continue collecting big bucks from donors who don’t know what’s going on.

The Democrat-Lite wing of the GOP may kill off the TEA Party primary candidates, but they will definitely not win in the general election because the TEA Party members will stay home. So the Democrat Socialists will retain the Senate and help themselves to the bank accounts of the super rich through punitive tax policy. The only winners are the Socialists and Karl Rove.

I’m really getting tired of this fat pig Rove. He and his gang are the guys who destroyed the republican party, and he wants to blame everyone but himself.

They don’t like how Cruz from Texas beat their establishment boy Dewhurst, backed by the Bush family.

Cruz, a TEA backed senator, has been better than any of them so far. And what did the GOP give us? ,,,Murkowski.

Rove is just the front man, the huckster waving his hat around and selling his snake oil. What is important is to keep your eye on who is paying the bills, not who is doing the shouting.

These fellows who are supporting this fund are not interested in RINOs so much as they are interested in protecting their investments. You see, RINOs are easily bought, and I imagine that the folks who have done the buying would not like to see their bought-and-paid-for Senators get tossed out on their ears by a herd of people who do not have their interests at heart, and who will put in place someone who may not “buy” quite as easily as the last guy...

What’s funny is, who do they think they’re fooling with that moniker? Idiots...

Sure, why not? They’ve been so successful in the past in picking unprincipled, limp-wristed, “go along to get along”, communist-lite, losers and wimps... this sounds like another winning strategy of the dumba$$ “party”.

The RNC called me this week looking for a donation, especially the Senate.

Boy, did they get a polite earful, as I told them I gave tidy sum(s) to give Romney a majority in the Senate and only Ted Cruz won, and you guys dropped the ball. Told them They are done they just don't know it yet, you (the GOP) divorced us a long time ago, we are moving out soon, and I am waiting for Col. West and Sarah Palin to start a new Conservative Party, have a nice day Sir....Needless to say, they didn't get a dime....

It's not a matter of "the wrong candidates."

It's a matter of teaching Tea Party candidates the right responses.

For example, teach them never to legitimatize rape.

Teach them to avoid all questions about the earth being 6,000 years old.

Just a little teaching, that's all.

When I got my request for a donation, I told them my donation went to the NRA because they are a no-compromize results-oriented organization.
