It is not surprising that some lawmakers instantly reacted negatively toward the bipartisan immigration reform proposal rolled out on Monday.
But I must say I was disappointed, based on the praise he has garnered as a thoughtful man, by the response of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.):
"I appreciate the good work... to fix our broken immigration system. I have deep concerns with the proposed path to citizenship. To allow those who came here illegally to be placed on such a path is both inconsistent with rule of law and profoundly unfair "
Really?
For starters it doesn’t sound like Cruz or his staff read the proposal... Moreover, Cruz is now a senator and needs to do better than a bumper-sticker slogan that reform is “inconsistent with the rule of law.”
And granted, Cruz has been in office only a few weeks, so maybe he hasn’t gotten his sea legs yet. But I don’t think he does himself, the debate or his party any good by making false statements and mouthing a platitude.
Cruz has said he would model himself, among others, on senators like Kentucky’s Rand Paul. Paul, whatever you think of his view (in favor of some legalization process), has spent some time thinking this through and sounds informed and reasonable on the subject. Shooting from the hip really doesn’t make Cruz look very smart, especially when so many senators are taking time to revisit and rethink immigration reform.
Senators who lash out reveal that they aren’t interested in any serious reform. That’s fine, but then they take themselves out of the debate and make their own voices irrelevant.
If Cruz is, as I keep being told, a very smart man, he should kick it up a notch, especially on an issue as complex and volatile as immigration reform.

The neocons like Jennifer Rubin, Bill Kristol and Paul Wolfowitz are the bane and the ruin of the conservative movement, which perhaps isn’t much surprise given their history. They’re little more than Trojan Horses. They were originally and still are Marxist Trotskyites, their “conservatism” amounting to little more than having a zeal for offering up American kids as pawns in stupid globalist, internationalist military adventures of no strategic interest to the United States. The hypocrisy is especially galling. Rubin and Kristol would be crying their whiny little tears for days if Israel was forced to give amnesty to millions of Arab illegal aliens from Egypt or Algeria, and justifiably so- yet they feel equally justified in urging the same sort of society-wrecking amnesty for the United States? Seems that their flaming liberal Trotskyist side comes out only when the interests of the US are at stake.
Whatever the reasons, we’re now in Year 5 of the Obama Depression, and I simply can’t fathom the idiocy, for whatever excuse, of letting in 20 million new low-wage workers and increasing the H1-B visa totals, to push even more millions of Americans out of work and take billions more in wages out of the economy. I guess our RINO and Dem politicians have been so blinded by all the lobbyist bribes and stylish dinners in the Beltway that they’re starting to forget who they actually represent. Which is maybe why they’re so anxious to pass this gun seizure bill as a top priority. Perhaps they’d be wise to start remembering who they answer to, because if they don’t, this corrupt and broken excuse for a government won’t be governing us for much longer.
Rubin is like Krauthammer, token Jews who must lash out at “fellow conservatives” from time to time or lose the teat offered by WaPo
Heck, we've got a fair bunch of 'em here on FR. (R) is good, (D) is bad, doesn't matter how conservative anyone is...
Bah. The GOP doesn't get my vote and I don't see starting anytime soon.

I’m seeing a lot of chatter around the net about the “power above ideal republicans” and none of it is good.
With all due respect to Marco Rubio - and to Jennifer Rubin - in the end, Democrats will get what they want - fraudulent voters, insecure borders, and a continuing flood of illegal immigrants.

It’s called the Cloward-Piven Strategy. The Republican Party will be remembered in history as the party that could have stopped the destruction of the USA but decided to stand by and watch it happen.
When I saw Cruz at the gun hearing the other day, he sounded like someone who could actually get in the faces of the liberals. He is presidential material so they will try to destroy him. Watch for it.

I shake my head, Ted Cruz is a man of principal, why must conservatives like Rubio give into illegals? The United States is a sieve for Mexico’s failure, I’m sick of it, I wish we had more politicians with a spine like Ted Cruz to call Democrats and Rubio on their capitulation of the rule of law to Mexico!
Why must certain laws be selectively enforced, with the Democrats and Rubio’s logic, the next time you get pulled over by the police, laugh when the cop asks for your license, tell them it’s your civil right to break the law, the Democrats and Marco Rubio said so, any law for that matter is irrelevant, the Democrats have undermined the RULE of LAW!
I would listen to Cruz before Rubin about whether a proposed law is consistent with the rule of law or not...but then I voted for Cruz twice:
