Germany’s socialist Left party want a 100 percent tax on anyone earning over €500,000 ($683,100) and will be including the policy in their general election campaign platform, a newspaper reported on Friday.

“We are suggesting that no-one should earn over 40 times the societal minimum,” said The Left’s co-leader Katja Kipping in the party's draft election platform, which was seen by regional newspaper the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung.

The party paper said the total tax on those taking home over €40,000 ($54,648) per month would be used to fund social welfare and investing in the country’s future. …

„Die Linke‟ is the old East German Communist Party, aka the Socialist Unity Party. They got 11.9 percent of the vote back in 2009.

However, in the coalition governments, 11.9% could be a strong swing vote, so while they may not get their 100%, they could force the majority party to support an 85% tax rate on high income earners.

Some things never change.

Workers of all lands, unite - to smash the rule of English capitalism! You young upward-striving nations of the earth, combine to annihilate the old English dragon who blocks the treasures of the earth and withholds from you the riches of the world.

-Robert Ley, German Labor Front leader under Hitler.

Gold is not neccesary. I have no interest in gold. We will build a solid state, without an ounce of gold behind it. Anyone who sells above the set prices, let him be marched off to a concentration camp. That's the bastion of money.

15 years ago my sister in law who is Irish was working in Frankfurt for the US Embassy. She told me they took $750 per month out of her paycheck for the “free” healthcare. God knows what it is now.

What’s the German term for “brain drain”?

“the societal minimum” this of coarse would EXCLUDE the elitist class who have grown acustom to stealing tax payer money while being beholden to the people.

They haven’t been paying attention to what is happening in France. Rich Germans are going to go to places with saner tax policies, as Gerard Depardieu did when he went to Russia.

As I recall, when Nader ran for POTUS as the "Green Party" candidate, something quite similar was a plank in the presidential platform. I think it might have been 100% tax on anything earned over $750,000.

This is the true agenda of the radical left. Under communism, the government decided who made what, and the highest paid doctor made not much more than the lowest paid subway ticket collector.

This is the ideal, the utopia of the left, including 0bama, Pelosi, Frank, Dodd, etc.

So then, why bust your hump?

Oh, and the rule would not apply to the ruling elite who would have their privileges as before.

Remember the worker’s slogan in the Soviet Union: “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.” Half the shifts were spent drinking vodka to make sure no one exceeded their quotas of doing the bare minimum to get by.

You forgot to mention that ‘Die Linke’ failed to make the cut to get into parliament in a number of recent state elections - Lower-Saxony just last week, for example.

Quite a few die-hard commies left over in the eastern states, though not enough to matter on a national scale. Well, let them whine and demand all they want, then.

At least they are not in power like their brethren in the US.

So if their desire is to just cap the rich’s income I wonder if they would be OK with the rich donating any amount over the limit to a charity of their (rich person’s) choice. In this method the socialist government would NOT get their grubby hands on it. Something tells me it is not just the rich’s wealth that bothers them but rather the desire for government to control that money.
