“Iran, Venezuela Plotting Attacks ‘Worse than 9/11’”

SNIPPET: “Tensions are mounting between the U.S. and Venezuela as the State Department decided to expel Livia Acosta Noguera, the Venezuelan consul in Miami, declaring her “persona non grata.” The Venezuelan consul was implicated in an alleged plot to launch cyber attacks on U.S. nuclear power facilities. The decision was taken as a direct result of the revelations made by the documentary The Iranian Threat, aired by the U.S Spanish language channel Univision.

In the film, the Venezuelan consul was caught on camera backing Iranian-sponsored cyber-attack against U.S. targets in 2007, when she was vice-secretary in the Venezuelan Embassy in Mexico. According to the documentary, these cyber-attacks would be “worse than 9-11.” The State Department did not want to comment on this decision. However, a U.S. high official stated that this expulsion is a serious issue, as “we do not take it lightly when we declare somebody persona non grata.””

SNIPPET: “Tarek Al-Aissami, the Venezuelan Minister of Interior and Justice, one of the key figures of the Chavez’s government, is accused by the media of having used this position to issue passports to members of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Born in Lebanon of Syrian descent in 1980; his father, Carlos Al-Aissami, was the head of the Venezuelan branch of the Iraqi Baath political party. According to reports, before the invasion of Iraq his father held a press conference in which he described himself as a Taliban and called Osama Bin Laden, “the great Mujahedeen, Sheik Osama bin Laden.”[1] The Minister’s great-uncle Shibli Al-Aissami was a prominent ideologist and assistant to the secretary general of the Baath party in Baghdad during the Saddam Hussein regime.[2]

SNIPPET: “El ex ministro de finanzas de Irán, Tahmasb Mazaheri, fue detenido en el aeropuerto de la ciudad alemán Düsseldorf con un cheque por valor de unos 70 millones de dólares, según informó el domingo la prensa alemana.

La semana pasada la aduana alemana detuvo a un extranjero de 59 años que había llegado en un vuelo de Turquía. Durante el registro en el aeropuerto de Düsseldorf, los oficiales realizaron búsquedas en el equipaje del hombre y encontraron un cheque por valor de 300 millones de bolívares (unos 70 millones de dólares) venezolanos emitido por el Banco de Venezuela. En ese momento los aduaneros no revelaron el nombre del detenido que resultó ser el político iraní.

Mazaheri fue ministro de Finanzas y Economía de la República Islámica de Irán hasta 2004, y desde 2007 hasta 2008 ocupó el puesto de jefe del Banco Central iraní.”
