Yep, heard him say it with my own ears.
Off-duty police officer hired for security at the school. Confronted the student immediately and forced/persuaded him to drop the weapon, then arrested him.

It was all over the news here yesterday while it was happening and until the press conference.
But, (not) oddly enough, the lengthy Atlanta Journal-Constitution article this morning mentions not one word about the shooter being disarmed by a guard.
