WASHINGTON — Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who won a Nobel Prize in physics but came under questioning for his handling of a solar energy loan, is stepping down.

Chu offered his resignation to President Barack Obama in a letter Friday. He said he will stay on at least until the end of February and may stay until a successor is confirmed.

Chu’s departure had been widely expected and follows announcements by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Environmental Protection Agency chief Lisa Jackson and Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that they are leaving.

Chu leaves with a heavy heart that he was not able to get gas prices up to European levels. That honor will now fall to his replacement.

RE: Energy Secretary Steven Chu resigns

When are we going to CLOSE DOWN this useless Carter established department?

Let’s do that and save $31 billion a year.

These guys are nothing but front men. Hagel spilled the beans yesterday when he said as sec of def he was not going to be in a policy making roll. If the cabinet are not policy makes, who is....obviously the Czars and his excellency. When things to bad, as they are designed to do in most cases, the cabinet member is the insulation. Just like in the mob, no one speaks to the capo but the underboss, so too in this moblike administration.

Too bad his genius suggestion that we paint all the roads and roofs in the country white to reduce global warming never got off the ground. Sherwin-Williams is sad to see him go.

This Administration has ABOVE THE LAW down to a science. Just about each person that he named to his first Administration could have been tried in court, but it is tough to have the law work when Holder is at the controls. And then they leave and go back into the private sector.

Hey, when they re-enter the private sector, can civil suits be filed?

His goal was $10 per gallon gasoline.

He obviously has to leave because he only destroyed
the American economy “half way”.

His replacement will continue the march of
the Dear Leader to full American poverty.
