You forgot one important item....the liberals won the election! And elections have consequences. Hussein won White House, Demorats gained seats in Senate and House. Less republicans voted in 2012 than in 2008. Now we have to live with the consequences.
In 1964 the liberals really won an election by landslide proportions (LBJ over Goldwater by around 20 percent, control of the House and Senate).
Quite a few Republicans hopped on to support the Great Society for the next few years.
But Obama won this last election by several percentage points and Republicans still control the House.
If Romney wasn’t seen as too liberal maybe some conservatives would have come out to support him and the result would have been different.
It doesn’t make political sense to me for them to cave in like they are on taxes, debt ceiling, immigration etc. etc. etc.
This was a much closer election and reflects a large group of conservatives out there who are disgusted (they stayed home) and want a new alternative to the GOP.
