Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) confronted former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel with a clip from his 2009 interview with Al Jazeera during today's Defense Secretary confirmation hearing.
The Secretary of Defense nominee can be heard agreeing with a caller's assertion that the United States is the "world's bully."

Cruz is rapidly becoming my new favorite senator....Rubio is disappointing.
Jesse Helms still my all time favorite RIP.
Ted Cruz carved up Hagel like a Thanksgiving turkey..everyday I am loving Cruz more and more he is awesome
Cruz has been a senator for only 28 days and is showing more leadership than those there for decades. And there’s Mike Lee right next to him. We need more like these two!
I still think that the conservatives should be working on a fast cycle OODA offensive plan to run against the 'rats and media.
Cruz is great and Hagel is an idiot. That is to say, Hagel is a liberal.
YES!!
Senator Cruz should be INVITED to join FreeRepublic as he provides "links" with his statements.
I think I will ask him to autograph my voter registration card I used to vote for him both in the primaries and in the runoff election.
Then I will frame it and hang it on the wall.
.
I REALLY like Cruz! In his few days in the Senate, he has done more to further our cause than the rest of them in years!
By what definition could Hagel be considered a Republican? What single Republican position does Hagel support?
That’s my Senator :)
Mine, too! What a change, right?

Aparently you missed the memo.
A segment of Free Republic has determined that Republicans, no matter how liberal they are, MUST be elected/put in to office.
Because.
And further, Principle does not matter. Winning matters. So as long as we get Chuck in there, any hell he wreaks is OK. Because he’s ‘one of ours’.
Where did he come from ?
At last a Republican with balls!
That just gets Hagel extra points in the Dem world...
Texas, via Sarah Palin and much to the chagrin of Rick Perry and his Hand picked sock puppet Dewhurst.
Texans picked a good one.
Hold Hagel accountable, Senator Cruz. Make Hagel eat his words!
Good for Cruz. I’m glad I got to vote for him.
Senator Cruz doesn’t appear to give a damn that John Warner supports Hagel! That’s how it should be. Dragging out the worthless old coots to get their establishment men through.
What happened to Hagel, he used to be a solid conservative?
Btw, one of his US Senate female aides was very pretty (not to imply anything, just an observation).
Any Pubbie worth spit...wouldn’t even think of working for Obanana........................
Let’s not forget Sarah Palin got this guy elected. Cruz was at 30% when Palin came to Texas. Dewhurst was an establishment RINO. I hope she takes a bigger role in finding worthy candidates.
You must have him confused with some other RINO/CINO
He was never a solid conservative. He was always a moderate who could be easily convinced to vote with the democrats or at most vote against the conservatives.
He voted for all the Supreme Ct justices nominated by republicans. I am assuming he voted for the Bush tax cuts, Am I wrong about this?
I don’t remember specific votes. I just remember his name on the wrong side time and time again, along with Snowe, Collins, Voinovich, Specter, etc.
A Hero has emerged..
Sure, rub it in. I’ve got Durbin and Kirk. Argh!
That was a strange race. Cruz is outstanding and I am so glad he won. I don’t know if Perry picked Dewhurst, I doubt it, but he did endorse him along with Huckaby, they usual suspects and Texas Right to Life. The last one was the only one that surprised me. Especially glad Dewhurst lost in that early in the campaign or slightly before, he was cavorting in D.C. with some Democrat strategist. He has acted more conservative in this legislative session but I believe had he been elected he would be lapdog to any power that be in order to gain his own position and positive media. In other words, he may have been KBH II.
It appears that Cruz is dragging Cornyn along the conservative line. Good deal and kind of humorous.
Why are they even going through this charade. They all know he will be confirmed. It is a joke.
I guess I could take credit cause I'm a Republican Tea Party supporter that has been a Freeper for decades, but my one vote and the 2 other votes of my family is all I can offer. I think Palin can offer much more than a few Freepers.
I think you think you are a little more important than you really are.
Colin Powell? LOL!
Hagel: Senator Cruz, who are you going to believe, the Hagel who agreed with what that woman said and that I agreed with then, or the Hagel who is now denying that he said what he clearly stated in that video? You have to believe me now, because, I so desperately want to work for my hero, Obama.
I like this guy Cruz! I pray that he doesn’t get beaten down by the SOBs in DC.
These people are disgusting liars and beyond disgrace. They do not deserve to be Americans and especially don't deserve to hold government positions.
Cruz speaks. Were going to need people who are good at what dems are good at- communicating their points. Dems communicate emotional reactionism (their points).
GPOe s cant communicate their points because their points are shallow, not in keeping with the Constitution, power hungry, wimpy, defensive and self- loathing, and a lot of ulterior motives (the dems do that but they’re good at it because they have no shame).
Cruz keeps it simple. He has one task - communicate the point - forget about any other goal or motive, and it has to do with defending the constitution - his main task as senator (like all elected officials and military mimbers).
From Wikip. on Cruz:
While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Societys Debate Panel as one of North Americas top-ranked parliamentary debaters, winning the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship.[13] In 1992, he was named Speaker of the Year and Team of the Year (with his debate partner, David Panton) by the American Parliamentary Debate Association.[13] In 1991 he and his partner came in second to Austan Goolsbee and partner David Gray. Cruz was also a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship.
If things go good, Obama will take the credit.
If things go south, the Republican Hegel, the GOP and George W. Bush will take the gaff.

I call BS myself. I was on the Texas TP conference call when Palin pulled herself into it. Without her help, all of our efforts couldn’t have pulled it off against the Dewhurst machine. I certainly give Free Republic and everybody else the credit due, but without all pulling together we couldn’t have single-handedly pulled it off. What’s the big deal of trying to pull down one of our staunchest supporters through that whole march to a win. What good does it do to try to diminish Palin’s role in it.
loved Jesse Helms also. A true conservation and southern gentleman...thats why the democrats hated him
Oh, he’s going to get a lot of wrath. He’s up to the task, most likely, but:
Prayers please.
Exactly...Cruz is starting to make Cornyn’s bloviating always after the fact look pathetic...Cornyn’s having to move back >>> that way.
I really like Cruz, he’s our ‘PitBull’.
