Some families to be priced out of health overhaul (Obama's hands tied by how law was written)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Some families could get priced out of health insurance due to what's being called a glitch in President Barack Obama's overhaul law. IRS regulations issued Wednesday failed to fix the problem as liberal backers of the president's plan had hoped.

As a result, some families that can't afford the employer coverage that they are offered on the job will not be able to get financial assistance from the government to buy private health insurance on their own. How many people will be affected is unclear.

The Obama administration says its hands were tied by the way Congress wrote the law. Officials said the administration tried to mitigate the impact. Families that can't get coverage because of the glitch will not face a tax penalty for remaining uninsured, the IRS rules said.

"This is a very significant problem, and we have urged that it be fixed," said Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, an advocacy group that supported the overhaul from its early days. "It is clear that the only way this can be fixed is through legislation and not the regulatory process."

He is invoking the “Congress” rule. Just mention Congress and the national idiots will think the Republicans passed healthcare. He knows full well how stupid the electorate is, he must laugh his ass off all the time, especially when he boards AF1.

“...every election and every political discussion becomes an argument about getting enough ambulances to each hospital...”

Interesting point. Just like the local and State taxes are now. “Without this tax increase we will need to lay off 128 firefighters....”

BTW - my family’s insurance premium is now more than my frikkin mortgage! (And that is the cheap plan - although I imagine sex change operations and abortions are covered.)

Off-topic - but you know how we say wrt the 2nd Amendment on “what part of ‘shall not be infringed’ don’t you understand?”

Heck - they don’t even know what “affordable” means. (Affordable Healthcare Plan. Heh.)

The Constitution, the legally passed DOMA law and the legally passed Immigration Laws, and I am certain many more haven’t “tied Obama’s hands,” so why, OH WHY, would THIS law do it?

Maybe because he WANTS people to beg Government to help them and safe them from their own stupidity!

FUBO and the sycophant media pushing this DRIVEL!

My neighbors, for financial reasons, divorced. She recently on Medicare. He, younger, applied for a welfare type insurance plan from the state. She said that her part time job did not have a family insurance plan.

HR3590 has more than 2000 pages but here is a summary, only 49 pages…..
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:HR03590:@@@D&summ2=3&;

In my opinion, there were 18 million people without healthcare insurance but Obamacare transforms the entire national health care system and affects all residents of the U.S., not just the 18 million.

In the HR3590 summary, the words “Requires the Secretary” (of HSS) appear 98 times and “Directs the Secretary” appears 64 times. “Authorizes the Secretary” appears 30 times. The law gives a tremendous amount of power to one individual, Kathleen Sebelius, who was NOT elected by We, the People, and who “serves at the will of the President”.

The IRS may need as many as 16,000 additional auditors, agents and other employees to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans. The government could have just expanded Medicaid to provide healthcare to the 18 million people and ask taxpayers to pay 1 to 2% more on their income tax to fund it. There is a great need for health care and I believe most Americans would have been willing to this tax. Instead we have a humongous mishmash of rules and regulations and taxations that intrude and affect every aspect of our lives.

After reading this information it appears that the Affordable Health Care Act is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The good stuff, coverage for children under 26 years old and pre-existing coverage were initiated first. Then the heavy fines and taxations and mandates will take effect in 2013 or later, after the November election of course.

The Obama Administration has already handed out 111 Obamacare waivers to U.S. companies. Unfortunately, if you’re a small business or don’t have connections you can’t get a waiver for your company. And there are some select groups who are exempt (Prisoners, illegal aliens, and foreign nationals, Amish, Mennonites, Scientologists and some Muslims). I think that Issuing waivers and exemptions to certain groups of people provides unequal treatment under the law. All laws should apply to all people. It is for this reason that this law violates the Constitution and should be thrown out. Just my opinion.

Stein knows what he’s talking about here. He experienced the political ramifications of nationalized health care in Britain and Canada. Any rational person would have avoided nationalization looking at the history of the Brits and Canadians if their interest was creating great health care... but it is rational if your interest is creating political influence and power.

God help us.

Obamacare was never about "healthcare".

It has always been about "control". That is, control of both a large segment of the American economy and control of our lives.

Don't kid yourself. Nobody was trying to do a "good deed" for the American people.

That’s right, it plainly violates the Civil Rights Act

There was a thread awhile ago with a fairly old paper I think talking about how the money flowing through the economy is like a creek flowing into a lake. Once the money is in the population’s hands (the lake), it is hard to take it back out. Of course there are taxes, but the money is already being used in the individual’s interests funding business, etc.

The trick is to divert the money from the creek before it even gets to the lake. Government health insurance, and soon - Government health CARE (to fix the “crisis” created by Obamacare), will take a huge chunk of money (and power) out of the private market and directly into the government.

This just means that the handicapped, retarded and elderly who have lived “log enough” will have to “die quickly”. Here come the expedited death panels.

Now that the election is over - the truth will have to be digested sooner rather than later.

It’s not as though we didn’t tell them so.

“The ethics of congress are so compromised that they are incapable of producing legislation that benefits the citizens of the USA.”

The major problem is the hundreds of thousands of competing laws and regulations which, no matter what you do, you are bound to run counter to one or more. When I took a course in criminal law back in the late 80s, I was taught that the act of murder could involve, IIRC ~70,000 laws/rules or regulations.

My law prof said the same applied, more or less to any criminal offense.

we need to call these “idiots” by their correct name.
They are the Socialist-Democratic Party of the USA. The old democrat party is dead. We need to take back the control of the language from the socialists and call them what they ARE. And pass this on.

The Socialist-Democratic Party is not stupid. They are well organized, well funded and they never give up on what they intend to do. It is up to WE THE PEOPLE to beat them at their game...and destroy them in any way, shape or form. We need to work smart, we need to organize with like minded people who share our views. And we need to elect Conservatives. Definition of a socialism is that socialists want to control people and commerce, but they do not want to own commerce. They are dangerous, and their ideology does not work as history has pointed out. We have our work to do.

ObamaCare was passed back when Dimocrats were the majority in both houses of Congress. It was written exclusively by Dimocrats.

Oh, let's see ....about, maybe, 43,000,000? Something like that?

But we'll have universal health care and some kickin' new taxes that will kick Whitey in the guts, and Obama will be a River to his People, and, and, oh, and we'll have some great new regulations -- we'll show them! -- and some nifty new benefits. For people who are covered. Which we won't want to be, when we find out what it costs.

shouldn’t that be “the way the democratic controlled congress wrote the law”?

the media bias is trying to infer that the blame be placed on the republican congress, but they cannot say that, but it is being inferred.

i hate the media. it is not through ignorance, but by evil design.

“We have to pass it so we can find out what is in it.”

IMHO I think that quote will go down in political history as the dumbest @ssed statement uttered by a politician EVER!!! And the twit still thinks herself brilliant. I will NEVER forgive Mary Landrieu for signing on to that piece of garbage.
