A resolution designating February 12, 2013, as Darwin Day, has been introduced into the United States House of Representatives.

The proposed resolution would be a recognition of Charles Darwin as “a worthy symbol on which to celebrate the achievements of reason, science, and the advancement of human knowledge."

The Darwin Day resolution was introduced by Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) on Jan. 22, 2013. Holt, one of the few members of Congress with a Ph.D. in a scientific field, is the sole sponsor of the bill. After its introduction, the resolution, H. Res. 41, was referred to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

The resolution:

Roy Speckhardt, Executive Director of the American Humanist Association, sent out a letter in support of the resolution.

Darwin Day, eh? I’ll celebrate it with all the vigor that I do for Marty Luther King (Junior) Day.

We used to have a holiday for Lincoln’s birthday. Charles Darwin was born on the same day. Why not get rid of Presidents’ day?

Demands that the “advancement of science be protected from those unconcerned with the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change”

The congressman with the letter (D) next to his name needs to read this:

Euro-Media Concede Global Warming Has Ended…Models Were Wrong…Scientists Are Baffled!

Here’s some choice words from Darwin

......

Thus the weak members of civilised societies propagate their kind.

No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man.

It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but excepting in the case of man himself, hardly any one is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.

.....

Wonder why this quote by Darwin’s book “The Descent of Man” isn’t mentioned in the Resolution?

He proposes some “evolution” resolution and then in the middle throws in some loony toon global warming crap;
“Demands that the “advancement of science be protected from those unconcerned with the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change.”

So this guy believes that it is in the interest of “science” to ignore “science”.

It will still be a mail day, but the mailman will be allowed to just throw all the letters into the air and let nature take it from there.

"Holt, one of the few members of Congress with a Ph.D. in a scientific field"

I'm sorry to say that he was my congress critter for 10 years until redistricting -- confirming everything I suspected about Ph.D.s working outside of their chosen field, he is a clueless doofus.

We need to get another member of the House to amend the bill to the “Darwin Awards Day” bill and amend the bloviation to indicate the intention to honor those who take their genes out of the shallow polluted end of the gene pool before passing them on.

His PhD was only from New York University. BFD.

"Calcium absorption lines and solar activity: a systematic program of observations" -- has a hell of a lot to do with molecular biology or genetics or cladistics, eh?

Wonder where this chap stands on Gore-bull warming?

Cheers!

“provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth”

????????????????? A dubious assertion. But how about a compelling explanation for the appearance of life.
