Rochester, N.Y. – Gun owners asked police and state leaders how these laws will directly affected them.
The question asked by many of the people was why, why was this law put into place, why weren't there any public hearings before it was signed.
But Tuesday's forum wasn't a time to debate the law but rather learn about it.
“They passed this legislation like a theft in the night,” said Jeddy Tranquill, who attended the forum.
“We feel the law is turning good people into criminals,” said 2nd amendment advocate Tony Matuszak.
Two weeks after Governor Cuomo signed the New York S.A.F.E. Act, state officials were in town to try and help people better understand the law.
A large crowd gathered for a presentation at Rochester's Public Safety Building where state representatives broke down parts of the law. But explanation or not, many were still upset overall.
“You don't feel that this safe act is unconstitutional?” asked a man in the crowd.
“Why from a prosecution stand point, Mr. Green, does the state even care what my address is?” asked another.
But while questions were answered more kept rising.
Gun and ammunition dealers, like Kordell Jackson, owner of Jackson Guns & Ammo in Henrietta, said even after this forum he still doesn't have a clear understanding of the law.
“It's one thing to put in laws and make sure they're governed by our states and everybody pays attention to that,” said Jackson, “but when it's too unclear it's unfair to us. Then we're [dealers] trying to tell our customers what's the right way to do things and we can't even give them answers.”

It would be nice to have some recall petitions to circulate around during these meetings.
Everybody is limited to 7 round magazines. There are no 7 round magazines produced. hmmmm
Thye had to PASS the law, before they could tell th public what was in it.

It's said that history repeats itself. If Rotten Rostenkowski were still alive, he could tell everyone what it is like to have to run from a mob of unhappy constituants.
That's the standard magazine capacity for the .45 1911/1911A1.
Taxpayer money should NOT be used to pay for armed security for politicians. Let them live like the rest of us...

Shouldn’t the 1911/1911A1 be declared the “official” gun of ,ew York? After all, it has the sanctified 7 round magazine. Surely the good governor will go out there and tell everyone that they should get a 1911 because it has a “good” number of bullets. Wouldn’t it be funny to promote the 1911 and enrage the gun banners that way. The 1911 being an iconic American weapon of war (boo, hiss). That would really upset the socialists.
Stricter gun laws have nothing to with increased safety of the populace and everything with politics. Quite a few politicians may not be too swift but they are smart enough to see the hand writing on the wall if things continue the way they are that the natives may get restless.
The “Occupy” riots across this country in the last two years were mere dress rehearsals for what lies ahead - years of unrest sparked by the increasing discontent of the unsuccessful who want to seize the fruits and the bounty of the successful, and do not appreciate the slow pace of redistribution.
A good example was the most recent shooting as apprehensible and regrettable as it was, almost immediately politicians jumped on the band wagon condemning so called “Assault” rifles, where as during this heinous crime spree no assault rifle was being used and instead hand guns stolen from his mother who he first killed came in to play. At least this is or was what later reports indicated.
There always were and will continue to be deranged individuals who will use what ever means are available, including guns to create mayhem. And each additional incident will be gleefully received by overjoyed ignorant politicians such as Feinstein or Bloomberg just having found another reason for removing guns from the general public, as they know quite well that down the road some of their dumb socialistic policies either directly or indirectly may turn the public against them, And eventually should the time come a gun may proof to be hazardous to their health.
There have been plenty of reports that Home Land Security has been ordering inordinate amounts of ammunition what only goes hand in hand with the intentional disarming of a good portion of the populace as sooner or later if things keep on going the way they are things could get a little rough and dicey, putting it mildly and it will be a lot easier to shoot an unarmed citizen than some one who is able to return fire.
Screw the recall, we need to bring back tar and feathering
My Savage M1907 has had a 10 round magazine for over 100 years!
Ahhh, I think you're a little off here. My M1911A1 Colt ACP .45 cal auto-loader does. Mmmm? There are lots and lots of those magazines around. (But it would make my .30 cal US M1 Carbine 15-rd magazines unlawful. And thus the rifle, of which there are probably 100,000 in New York State alone. Hey?)
Under the law you can use a ten round magazine but can’t fill it with more than seven rounds.

I don’t believe that New York has provision for ‘recall’ of elected officials.
Maybe that issue should be presented before the voters at the next election.
