Who wants to be a ‘death panelist’?

Jonathan Gruber was one of the Obama administration’s key advisers during the health-care reform debate. As the economist who conceived the ideas at the heart of the Massachusetts health-care law, he is arguably the intellectual godfather of the Affordable Care Act.

All of which would make him a natural fit for the Independent Payment Advisory Board, the new, 15-member panel that has the authority to reduce Medicare doctors’ reimbursements and pilot new ways to deliver high quality care for less. There’s just one tiny problem: Gruber has absolutely no interest in serving on the panel. “No way,” he says without pause. “Maybe if it was a part-time gig. But full time? I can’t see it.”

It’s not just Gruber. Obama’s former health policy advisers worry that other top health economists, those in hot demand in academia and in the industry, won’t be interested in a federal job where the compensation is low, the political controversy high and the ultimate payoff unclear.

“It is supposed to be 15 members, with limited salaries who can’t do any outside work,” says Peter Orszag, the former director of the Office of Budget and Management under Obama who was a key proponent of IPAB. “It will be challenging to find top 15 health-care experts are who would want that job.”

“You’re joining an organization that has uncertain authority with the certainty of being deeply political and widely criticized,” says Bob Kocher, a former Obama health policy adviser. “It doesn’t make sense for current thought leaders in American health care to want this.”

The Independent Payment Advisory Board is one of the Affordable Care Act’s most aggressive attempts at bending the health cost curve downwards.

This is where we need Republicans with guts to step forward and take these jobs. With a handful of decisions over a few months they should be able to set in motion a house of horrors that will destroy the Democrat party within 5 years!

Obama and his running dog lackeys set these death panels in place imagining they would murder the innocent. We can turn the tables on them and dispose of them instead.

This is war.

“It will be challenging to find 15 experts...”

No it won’t. They’ll end up hiring some abortionists.. wait and see. What’s the moral difference of killing a baby vs killing a person with cancer, or heart disease. In fact, their job will become easier. No more bloody gloves... just a swipe of a pen.

Yeah, called the ‘suicide hot line’ and told my tale of woe to the Arab that answered and he asked if I could drive a truck.

The same can be said for doctors in the near future. Who will be want to be a doctor in the future where the pay will be low and the criticism high. With no way to pay off your student loans.

With this advisory panel whose main function is deciding how to reduce cost to the health care system having the ultimate power over a doctors income I don’t see many intelligent people wanting to be a doctor.

The Independent Payment Advisory Board is one of the Affordable Care Act’s most aggressive attempts at bending the health cost curve downwards.

Thats not bending the curve down and it does not provide quality care...whatever that means.

Its refusing to treat.

This stupid assinine bill is filled with mumbojumbo feel good bs that means nothing. Healthy outcomes, quality care, etc all drivel.

And we are stuck with this sh1t. Thanks, John Roberts. D1ckhead.

The “best and brightest” will practice off shore.
I expect to see clinics set up in the Caribbean to cater to high end US patients who have the resources to go beyond Obamacare.

The unmentioned part is the positive effect the DPs will have on SocSec and Medicare.

Every year sliced off the average lifespan is a huge savings.

Irony wasted on the Obama lovers. Seems the panel that wants doctors to deliver FULL TIME high quality medicine for LESS MONEY cannot attract members to sit on the panel because of the LOW MONEY of the FULL TIME position.

The show name Survivor is already taken but they can do a live Death Panel series on TV to see who makes it and who doesn’t. It should be a big hit in today’s society.
