Why immigration is a political landmine for the GOP

Changing sentiment toward illegal aliens is making GOP opposition to immigration reform even more difficult politically.

It isn't just Hispanics who care about immigration reform. Most Americans want to see some kind of reform also. A new CBS poll sheds some light on the dilemma for Republicans.

From Politico:

________________

"Fifty-one percent think illegal immigrants should be able to remain in the country and apply for citizenship, while an additional 20 percent think they should stay as guest workers. Twenty-four percent say they should have to leave the country, according to a CBS News poll released Monday night.

The latest survey shows an eight percentage point shift from the 43 percent of Americans who thought illegal immigrants should be able to stay and apply for citizenship in March 2010; 21 percent thought they should stay as guest workers while 32 percent thought they should have to leave at that time.

But along party lines, the response today is widely partisan. Only 35 percent of Republicans think illegal immigrants should be able to stay and apply for citizenship, compared with 66 percent of Democrats, according to the CBS poll. Twenty-five percent of Republicans think they should stay as guest workers, compared with 17 percent of Dems.

And while only 13 percent of Dems think illegal immigrants should have to leave the country - 36 percent of Republicans think they should have to go.

_____________

This isn't just a question of idle speculation. The future of the Republican party is at stake. Democrats will not get their way on amnesty, but the "path to citizenship" - how that shakes out in Congress - will be vital to the question of the Hispanic's growing role in national politics and where their allegiances will lie.

I see he never gets to his point directly: claiming Rs must sign onto citizenship or they are toast.

Because he cant promise Hispanic votes as a result of it.

Just say NO!
The best move is NOT TO PLAY!
The ILLEGAL ALIEN IN CHIEF is trying any way he can to get his United States Citizenship!
This Amnesty Bill would finally give Obama U.S. Citizenship.

Lose/Lose situation for Repubs. They will never promise as much as RATS, therfore their proposals will always be portrayed as “racist”. If their proposals pass it lets in 10’s of millions more RAT voters. Good luck winning another national election. It’s suicide for the party and the country. Why the F would they do this?

This is just republican delusional thinking... THAT VOTING STILL WORKS..
That voting in federal elections is NOT corrupt beyond normal corruption..
That voter fraud IS NOT MASSIVE and out of control..

AND THAT OBAMA DIDN’T WIN BY MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD..
and is providing AN ILLUSION the republican party is not corrupt as well..

Republicans are leaving the ship.. not all of them are STUPID..
But many are................... remaining republican is masochistic

It'll be just one more smoke screen.
It'll be one more fatigue factor for political overload.

Someone once said: First watch 8 minutes 16 seconds of video titled Romney defeated Obama - if not for voter fraud.

Then ... read and think about this.

The legitimate applicants for entry into the United States are surely given cavalier treatment in one sense. Try to do things the right way and go through the proper channels is not considered a plus. Could be actually more like a penalty, though not meant that way. Breaking the laws of the land are a ticket ahead of the line .

One might be excused wondering if any of the 12 million plus illegals managed to vote in the last presidential election?

Well, I guess since the media tells us the whole country thinks like Democrats, the Republicans shouldn’t really take any opposite positions on anything - because that would be mean and racist. Just stand there and let the Democrats do whatever they want. It’s politically smart, and will show America that the Republicans have grown. /s

The Federal republican party is prity much dead thanks to traitors like John Boehner. Who wants to bother supporting fake institution that has no signification difference from the democrats.

As for the racisticly defined block “Hispanics” like the similarly defined group “blacks” it really doesn’t matter what so called republican do or don’t do. We learned in the 50’s and 60’s that votes have nothing whatsoever to do with the labels created and sold by rasist.

We either convinced theses people of the truth on the airwaves or they will vote themselves(and everyone else) into racial slavery to the ones who have pettled the same old lie for 50 years.

You vote DOES NOT MATTER! It never did and it never will matter. What matters is what people hear and think as sold to them in the proaganda war. Win or lose that war and so goes everything else.

I’m sorry to say that with the leftist in firm control of most all of the means of information distribution they are also firmly in control of the only means of fighting that war. This federation to say nothing of the federal republican party are dead men walking.

John Boehner has shyed away from any form of decisive action which would have made clear the truth of the situation. In doing so he has left the narrative in their hands to spin whatever lie they wish in service to their beloved leader(Obama).

Had John Boehner shut down the government people might have had a chance to witness first hand something of the truth. But instead all they got was the fear and drama pettled to them by the left as part of a campaign to show Conservative irresponsible for even trying to demand a balanced budget with the only tool they have left. Either way he was ineffective and America has never suffered looser.

It is the winner that writes the history true or false and as long as John Boehner allows them to win he by definition loses.

Because at the heart of many “republican” in Washington D.C. is a stinging desire for a strong government in which they rule and a local political climate all to eager to cheer them on & mislead them.

Washington is the center of their world now and of course Washington is a city trying to become an imperial capital.

I dont see that from the Repubs. I think their big govt programs come from trying to mimic what the RATS do to win election. not form any imperial ambition.

A republican trying to mimic a democrat is doomed to fail. Their ain’t no reason to settle for less than the genuenly corruptible article.

Republican have to provide a stark and contrasting point of view or they are simply peddling a lesser product.
