QFT...they are the power behind the throne in both numbers and $$$. While it's possible the BSA could take the the position described in the article where it becomes a local unit option, based on chartering organization guidance, I'd say the LDS-sponsored units would simply drop their BSA affiliation. This would shortly be followed by an LDS-only group similar to the Pentecostal Royal Rangers youth group.
This would essentially collapse the BSA as a national organization, along with its premier events (Jamboree) and High Adventure Bases (Philmont, et al). If there is any discussion going on among the board, it had better be around these types of issues and the potential for the LDS to take the road I described above.
Our local LDS troops already segregate quite a bit. They don’t even attend the local camp anymore(largest Council owned facility in the country). It’s been suspected they will leave anyway to create a coed youth group like Venture Crew.
I wouldn't be too sure of that.
"The experience of same-sex attraction is a complex reality for many people. The attraction itself is not a sin, but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to have such attractions, they do choose how to respond to them. With love and understanding, the Church reaches out to all Gods children, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters."
The LDS church has it’s own scouting program set up and ready to replace the BSA at a moment’s notice. They already have it in countries like Switzerland, where the scouts are a co-ed organization so the LDS church has their own program and do not affiliate with the BSA sister organization.
If they pull their funding and support, that’s the end of BSA.
>>This would shortly be followed by an LDS-only group
Maybe the LDS should consider why it’s RINO for president campaign got its Deseretian arse handed to it before it starts dicktating policy to the BSA.
What’s the Reformed Egyptian/Kolobian translation of - “NO SALE”?
Oh and, let’s not forget the fact that SLC rivals SanFransisco for it fame as a homosexual population center.
So would the Catholics.
I just heard back from a BSA Field Service Representative friend of mine at a nearby Council that the word on the street is that this vote is going to be close and could go either way.
