The Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation’s largest private youth organizations, is actively considering an end to its decades-long policy of banning gay scouts or scout leaders, according to scouting officials and outsiders familiar with internal discussions.
If adopted by the organization’s board of directors, it would represent a profound change on an issue that has been highly controversial -- one that even went to the US Supreme Court. The new policy, now under discussion, would eliminate the ban from the national organization’s rules, leaving local sponsoring organizations free to decide for themselves whether to admit gay scouts.
“The chartered organizations that oversee and deliver scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with their organization’s mission, principles or religious beliefs,” according to Deron Smith, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts’ national organization.
Individual sponsors and parents “would be able to choose a local unit which best meets the needs of their families,” Smith said.
The discussion of a potential change in policy is nearing its final stages, according to outside scouting supporters. If approved, the change could be announced as early as next week, after the BSA's national board holds a regularly scheduled meeting.
Only seven months ago, the Boy Scouts affirmed a policy of banning gay members, after a nearly two-year examination of the issue by a committee of volunteers convened by national leaders of the Boy Scouts of America, known as the BSA.
In a statement last July affirming the ban, its national executive board called it “the best policy for the organization.”

No sympathy here when the first “Sandusky” case arises.
Imagine, allowing same-sex sex offenders of men and boys to now have full access to the objects of their obsessions. Perhaps that gay icon, Jerry Sandusky, will now be released to become a scout leader.

While it's possible the BSA could take the the position described in the article where it becomes a local unit option, based on chartering organization guidance, I'd say the LDS-sponsored units would simply drop their BSA affiliation. This would shortly be followed by an LDS-only group similar to the Pentecostal Royal Rangers youth group.
This would essentially collapse the BSA as a national organization, along with its premier events (Jamboree) and High Adventure Bases (Philmont, et al). If there is any discussion going on among the board, it had better be around these types of issues and the potential for the LDS to take the road I described above.

Sounds like the media being the usual willing accomplices to the homosexual mafia. I’m sure they want this brought up again to drag the BSA through the wringer, hoping to wear them down bit by bit.
If this is true, then I will take some, but not much comfort in the ability of local organizations to set their own policy....and this is why. The books, magazines, (Boy’s Life), merit badge pamphlets and all of the rest of the publications emanating from the BSA will have to reflect this change. The content will be “diversified”. And the “two deep” leadership policy will have only limited effectiveness....what if both leaders are homosexual now?

Call me cynical but I think the ACLU and other liberal type lawyers pushing this have the intention to then turn around and sue the BSA for allowing it(if they actually rescind the current ban) when the incidents of pedophilia sky rocket.

Some of my dues and fundraiser proceeds go to the national organization. Even if they push the choice to the local level, I will still be forced to support the national organization that chose to punt.
Well, the Roman Catholic Church doesn't have as deep of pockets that it used to. They allowed homosexual leaders in their organization and it didn't work out so well.
NBC managers, owners and newsies are always hoping they can start hopping on Boy Scouts ~ but it’s not going to happen.

I agree before we debate the wisdom of making a change to the BSA policy regarding gay members lets wait for them to announce a change.
May be a ratings ploy to get the gays and their sympathizers tuned in to see Brian Williams.
