The Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation’s largest private youth organizations, is actively considering an end to its decades-long policy of banning gay scouts or scout leaders, according to scouting officials and outsiders familiar with internal discussions.
If adopted by the organization’s board of directors, it would represent a profound change on an issue that has been highly controversial -- one that even went to the US Supreme Court. The new policy, now under discussion, would eliminate the ban from the national organization’s rules, leaving local sponsoring organizations free to decide for themselves whether to admit gay scouts.
“The chartered organizations that oversee and deliver scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with their organization’s mission, principles or religious beliefs,” according to Deron Smith, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts’ national organization.
Individual sponsors and parents “would be able to choose a local unit which best meets the needs of their families,” Smith said.
The discussion of a potential change in policy is nearing its final stages, according to outside scouting supporters. If approved, the change could be announced as early as next week, after the BSA's national board holds a regularly scheduled meeting.
Only seven months ago, the Boy Scouts affirmed a policy of banning gay members, after a nearly two-year examination of the issue by a committee of volunteers convened by national leaders of the Boy Scouts of America, known as the BSA.
In a statement last July affirming the ban, its national executive board called it “the best policy for the organization.”

Traditional Catholic parishes (if any actually sponsor BSA — I doubt it) WOULD fight tooth and nail. But many everyday Catholic “new church” type parishes would have no trouble with this at all...
...all too true, I’m afraid...my town’s parish, a fairly affluent suburban bunch, have a BSA troop, and there would be no questions asked...
...some of the men might grumble in the beginning, but their women, obsessed with ‘community’ spirit, and who really run these suburban churches, will eventually have their way...

The first clause is enough. One needn't an additional reason than those already existent.
The LDS church has it’s own scouting program set up and ready to replace the BSA at a moment’s notice. They already have it in countries like Switzerland, where the scouts are a co-ed organization so the LDS church has their own program and do not affiliate with the BSA sister organization.
If they pull their funding and support, that’s the end of BSA.
I plan to get my kids past pubescense and into adult hood without any fudgepackers having a crack at re defining their life style. Then they are on their own.
The Boy Scouts may be lost, but Scouting can be what the People want as an institution, not what a bunch of politically correct fudge packers want, who wanty more than beiong a Scout, the fudgepackers want to have political power based on their sexuality.Not in the constitution.
This sounds like pure cowardice - leave the local chapters to face the lawsuits and the hate. Either they stand for what’s right or they don’t - they can’t have it both ways.
I read a posting on a U.S. scouting forum in the last 6 months where an adult Scouter in the UK informed us Yanks that the British scouting association was dropping its references to God. They have been open to homosexuals for some time now, just like the Canadians.

And you understand that the difference between then and now is that now, if this passes, homosexuals will be able to become scout leaders as OPEN HOMOSEXUALS.
That has the same impact as it does in the military (where homosexual men served bravely in the past but none knew they were homosexual), that their real motivation is not to serve but to ensure that everyone knows that they are homosexual, and that it is a homosexual that is serving.
In short, they become a hyphenated-member of the organization. Just like a hyphenated feminist or a hyphenated American.
That hyphenation subordinates what should be their primary motivation (serving) to a position of less importance to what their true primary motivation is (pushing the homosexual agenda).
THAT is why this is such a serious problem.
Easier said than done, look what has happened with most mainline churches.
Any supportive parent of a scout troup/supporters thereof, needs to be forced to watch gay porn ‘twink’ videos before any debate on gays in scouting.
I am quite serious. Let them see the reality of gays and ‘simulated’ young boys. enough of this BS. MAKE these people cast an informed ‘vote’ on the matter.
And yes, the non supportive types should see for themselves what they are actually fighting against. It would cement their resolve.

If this goes through, it just dawned on me how this all came about.
Not too long ago, the BSA was forced to admit that they’d had their own “homosexual priests” issue going back for decades.
I guarantee that Obammie and his Commies sent their Uncle Vito mafia mouthpiece named Holder to the BSA and told them, “Here is the list of BSA representatives that we will prosecute for JAIL TIME and this is the amount we will sue the BSA for...if you do not change your stance on OPENLY HOMOSEXUAL ADULTS LEADING the Boy Scouts.”
If this goes through, I have no doubt this is what caused the 180-degree shift.
Let the BSA whither away
