Gun Owners Refuse to Register Under New York Law
New American ^ | Jan 25, 2013 | Alex Newman

After Democrats in New York rammed a sweeping assault on the right to keep and bear arms through the legislature that failed to exempt police officers from the draconian restrictions, gun owners and even some lawmakers are planning what has been dubbed potentially the largest act of civil disobedience in state history. According to news reports, gun rights activists are urging everyone to defy far-left Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new registration mandate while daring authorities to “come and take it.”

Analysts say the legislation, passed in a frenzy last week in the wake of the Newtown shooting, represents the most brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation. Among other points, the so-called SAFE Act seeks to limit magazines to just seven bullets, require virtually all of the estimated one million semi-automatic rifles in the state to be registered with authorities, mandate reporting of patients who express indications that they may have thoughts about hurting themselves or others by doctors, and more.

Aside from being unconstitutional, experts on gun violence also point out that the draconian schemes are a bad idea: Studies have repeatedly shown that more guns lead to less crime, and the phenomenon is obvious across America — just compare Chicago or D.C. to Alaska or Wyoming. The mandated reporting requirements for doctors, meanwhile, have come under fire from across the political spectrum. Whether it will even be possible to enforce the bill, however, remains to be seen.

Preparations are already being made for mass resistance. “I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,’’ said President Brian Olesen with American Shooters Supply,

I don't blame them one bit. I applaud them with all my heart.

A little while before my momma died in 2010, we got to talking about what Obama and his evil crew were up to. She and I eventually got around to what they are planning to do with guns. She was very aware I had a lot of guns and she asked what I'd do if they got to ‘registration’ and all the other stuff that would ensue. I told her I'd ignore it - they'd have to come take them (at least the ones that they could find.)

She told me “I don't blame you.” An 86 YO law abiding, God-fearing, tithing woman that never once smoked or drank or broke a law that she knew of. Always paid her taxes, to the point of going overboard (I think). She was called home in April that year.

We could learn from liberals. There is strength in solidarity as long as everyone holds together. Conservatives on the other hand are like cats and it’s every man for himself. :-) I hope they hold together and refuse to comply

Not following an unconstitutional law is, in itself, constitutional. The “I was just following orders” excuse didn't work out too well for the Nazi types who tried it in Nuremberg.

“Disobedience” does not imply wrong-doing. It simply means not obeying an order.

It’s about time that the rights of the citizens overpower the bloat of a fetid government. More than once the people of NY have chosen to defy the King and send him and his army away. I suspect that beyond the befouled bowels of the inner city lies a huge number of freedom loving people who have been denied their rights by a falsely empowered tyrant who’s only real achievement is the control of a boot licking press.

You are not trying to say that the killings did not occur, are you?

While I believe that there are differences between hoaxes and ‘conspiracies,’ I certainly do not believe these killings never happened and are a hoax.

I am patently for maintaining the status of the second amendment and as few as possible abridgements to it as we can keep from happening, however, I’m not ready to ‘kook it out.’

If they come to take your guns you’ve lost. The odds of you successfully winning that battle are about a million to one. The conflict must be asymmtric to allow the citizens any chance of winning. Can you think like Timothy McVeigh? Because that is what it’s going to take. Think truck bombs, guided model aircraft with homebrew binary VX, vacant houses mined with a ton or so of anfo, and then a tip about an arsenal called in, exections of anti-gun politicians and their families, mines in favorite police speed trap locations, etc. Resistance must be without rules if it is to be successful, because all the advantages are on their side

The only people that I am in favor of disarming are the private and government security forces that surround and protect these communists from the people who they are supposed to serve. Take away the SS, Bloomberg’s security, Cuomo’s security, and let’s see how they feel about gun control.

With the amount of resistance already expressing itself in New York, analysts say attempting similar schemes at the federal level would be literally insane. Still, that does not mean it will not be attempted.

Which pretty much guarantees that Obama will try to cram it down America's throat .... much the same as Obamacare.

“Why are we calling it civil disobedience.”disobedience” implies that gun owners are doing something wrong.”

You’re right it’s “governamental criminality”

Boy, are you right about that! The town AND county in NY where I was born and raised were always Republican. This past election, both the town and county went for Obama. I was shocked and appalled!

New York State is not allowed by the U.S. Constitution to make war on its citizens.
SEc 10. No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops,
or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State,
or with a foreign Power, OR ENGAGE IN WAR,
unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay
