Senators Nearing Agreement On Broad Immigration Reform Proposal

By Rosalind S. Helderman and David Nakamura January 25

A working group of senators from both parties is nearing agreement on broad principles for overhauling the nation’s immigration laws, representing the most substantive bipartisan effort toward comprehensive legislation in years.

The six members have met quietly since the November election, most recently on Wednesday. Congressional aides stressed there is not yet final agreement, but they have eyed next Friday as a target date for a possible public announcement.

The talks mark the most in-depth negotiations involving members of both parties since a similar effort broke down in 2010 without producing a bill.

“We have basic agreement on many of the core principles,” Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), a member of the group, said this week. “Now we have to draft it. It takes time.”

“The group we’ve been meeting with — and it’s equal number of Democrats and Republicans — we’re real close,” added Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), another member of the group.

If the GOP had any ballz, they would propose the only logical solution to this-—open borders, no benefits. Our grandparents came to this country with our arms open, and they did not accept nor demand one dollar of public assistance.

This is what the GOP should propose—you will not be deported, you will not be bothered by the immigration authorities. But you cannot and will not receive any public benefits. No public school, no free medical, no free nothing.

*Sigh* The Stupid Party.

On the bright side, how dumb would an illegal be to want to become a citizen and own a piece of the debt the Kenyan Kommie is running up when he/she gets pretty much everything he/she wants already with none of the obligation?

And I see that sellout, Rubio is in the group.

If he does decide to run for president, I hope the voters will be reminded often of his treachery.

We so desperately need a new conservative party.

"[T]he whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science."

That is our future.

The only reform needed is to enforce existing law!!!

Use the border patrol to check all businesses and tips from citizens fining any violators of hiring $10,000 per illegal, including homeowners that hire one.

For a second offense, double the fine and mandatory 6 months in jail!

Illegals will self deport within 6 months!

My Parents came to America in the early 50’s after waiting for years to escape communism and become AMERICANS not hyphenated Americans just AMERICANS. They were first of required to have a sponsor before they could even get on a ship, and once they arrived they had to sign a document swearing that they would not ask for or take a penny from the government for FIVE YEARS! what a difference a few decades and a little reverse racism makes! I am pissed here in California La Raza and the Aztlan’s are so insinuated in the government we might as well be in Mexico! My mom is so disenheartened she thinks going back to Europe would be better than what is being done to America.

It is NOT reform to allow the illegal citizens of another country to stay here, much less be made citizens.

Doesn’t the GOP know this is national self destruct?

And soon the thread, and others like it as the story evolves, will dill with people telling us we must continue to reward the GOP who caved on Immigration, gun control and the budget/spending/deficit.

When millions went to the polls and voted for the liberal GOP candidate, it should surprise no one the GOP took it to mean support of ‘moderation’.

Perhaps eventually people will stop making excuses. But so far they still can’t admit the truth staring them in the face.

McCain, of course. And super left wing democrats making a fool of him.

No details given, obviously there is no reform. Only amnesty for illegals.

They say the dems got 70% of the hispanic vote, so naturally the GOP is going to make illegal hispanics citizens. Make sense?

What is the “fairness” to these people? They are citizens of Mexico for G’s sake!

If they started voting republican, the democrats would hunt them down like dogs.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a veteran of the 2007 effort who is part of the current working group, said Republican attitudes have dramatically shifted since the party’s defeat at the polls in November.

I would have bet my house and home that CS was one of the traitors.

Conferring rights and privileges upon illegal aliens has a corrosive effect on the Rule of Law, the very foundation of our Republic. It is also a slap in the face to legal immigrants who have followed the rules and obeyed the laws. There are millions of immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter the U.S. legally and approximately 40 million immigrants living in the U.S., most of whom followed the law.

Any legislation that legalizes the status of those who broke our laws by entering our country illegally and allows them to stay and work here is amnesty. We must not only prevent the Democrats and some moderate Republicans from hijacking the meaning of the word amnesty, but the public must be made aware about the true impact of an amnesty. The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty would be $2.6 trillion just for increased entitlement program costs. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.

Say hello to the US as the new Venezuela.

There will never be another free and fair election in US history with 40 million new Third World Voters who will vote for anything that gets them hand outs.

The minute this takes effect, 50% of America’s Voters will have their votes nullified because they are swamped by ex illegals.

Ask any native tax paying Californian how that works out. It’s called the Villagarosa -ization of the US electorate .

Take a look at how it’s worked out in Venezula under Chavez for the last 15 years and know our future.
