Biden on gun control: Limit on magazine rounds a bigger priority

WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that he's more concerned about limiting the number of rounds in a gun magazine than about banning assault weapons that account for a small percentage of gun deaths.

Biden argued that the shooter at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., could have been slowed down if he had fewer rounds in each magazine and had to change clips more often. "Maybe if it took longer, maybe one more kid would be alive," Biden said during an online video chat on Google Plus.

Biden says he wants a ban on assault weapons, even though he acknowledges they don't account for a large portion of gun deaths in America. He says a ban would solve part of the gun violence problem, particularly for police who can be outgunned by criminals with assault weapons.

"If anyone asks today'Can you win this?,' we don't know, it's so uphill," Feinstein said. She said it only would happen if voters got behind the measures and called on their lawmakers to act.

The assault weapons ban in particular is seen as unlikely to make it through Congress, because of opposition by majority Republicans in the House and concerns from moderate Democrats in the Senate. Even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has cast doubt on its prospects. Some advocacy groups are focusing their attention instead on expanding background checks, which is seen as more doable politically.

Feinstein said those Democrats with concerns about the legislation needed to ask themselves what their silence would mean.

"Sandy Hook is more eloquent testimony than any of us could possibly give," she said. "If members of this body are so insensitive to what happened to those small bodies from that Bushmaster when it all becomes known, America is hopeless."

-snip-

Biden will be accompanied by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Deputy U.S. Attorney General Jim Cole and other administration officials, as well as Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Bobby Scott, both Virginia Democrats.

What a dumb horses butt....

Criminals will just carry more clips/magazines or they will carry more weapons on them....

Not to mention anyone with decent sheet metal working rigs will be able to create/modify new high capacties and those people will of course be criminals and won’t give a crap about breaking slow joe’s laws...

So, what Biden is saying is that it’s OK for “civilians” to be “outgunned by criminals” but not the police?

Lack of laws is not the problem. And more laws are not the solution.

MI:Gutsy grandma shoots at robber after attack

"Somebody said he had a gun, and when he turned and faced me he went down, and when he went down I just pulled my 9 out and started shooting him,"

She fired 11 rounds from a gun that the democrats want to make illegal.

Limiting the capacity of firearm magazines has about the same chance of reducing murders as limiting the capacity of beer cans would reduce alcoholism.

If we didn’t finance Planned Parentlesshood, there would most likely be millions more children alive today.

This is only 4 rounds I think but it does display the stupidly of the liberal argument about reloading time.

They can be fired at least twice as fast as they're loaded.

Of course!

If Lanza had to take that extra 2 seconds to change out a 10 round magazine, that’d given those 50 pound 6 year olds and the unarmed women teachers hiding in the closet a chance to rush him and take him down with their bare hands.

The ONLY priority is infringing on the rights of lawful gun owners so the Democrats can show their constituency that they are “doing something”.

Exactly my thoughts and that's exactly what he's saying.

It appears that Joe sees just two types of people: the police (aka: government) and criminals.

Why is it that the police will be exempt from magazine size limit? If it's against the law to have more than seven rounds, then bad guys won't have more than seven rounds, right?

Wrong.

The bad guys won't abide by the law, so in order to ensure that they aren't outgunned, the police get to have larger magazines.

Meanwhile, the law abiding public is regulated into a severe disadvantage when it comes to defense of self, family, and society.

It is incomprehensible to Joe and his big government types that ordinary average citizens may be called upon to be the good guy.

We need severe restrictions on Joe Biden’s 1st Amendment rights.

“The bad guys won’t abide by the law...”

It’s getting to the point where the good guys won’t either.

***particularly for police who can be outgunned by criminals with assault weapons. ***

OUTGUNNED? Back in the early 1900s Harry Tracy broke out of prison and with just a 30-30 Winchester and a Colt revolver shot down around eleven lawmen and several civilians before he shot himself.

I don’t remember reading of any lawmen at that time crying about being “outgunned” or calling for a ban on 30-30s.

Biden’s a moron. There are still too many people of western culture in the USA to allow gun control to have any effect (see ingenuity). Hey, Biden, head someplace closer to the Equator. There, you might be able to more easily enforce dictatorships. Take your old feminist nags with you.

Using the “if it saves 1 life” argument is the sign of scoundrel. It also tells you that they think their plan wont have much of an impact. If it would save hundreds or thousands of lives, wouldnt they say that?

***WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that he’s more concerned about limiting the number of rounds in a gun magazine than about banning assault weapons that account for a small percentage of gun deaths. ****

Back in the late 1960s a Viet Cong backwoods blacksmith could turn out a 30-40 round magazine for a captured M-16, using only a piece of sheet metal and a pair of tin snips.

And this idiot thinks a “ban” will fix things up? Americans have had extended magazines ever since rifles went to cartridges.

And you thought the HENRY rifle holding 16 rounds was bad!
