Assault Weapons Ban Now Lacks Votes Needed to Pass Senate

A proposed ban on sales of assault weapons would be defeated in the U.S. Senate today unless some members changed their current views, based on a Bloomberg review of recent lawmaker statements and interviews.

At least six of the 55 senators who caucus with Democrats have recently expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a simple 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote.

OK, but keep a lookout for the “compromise” bill.
The DiFi bill was intended to distract us.

With a Republican majority in the House, the situation in the Senate should be
irrelevant. Oh that’s right, John “I surrender” Boehner is still Speaker. :(

Don't worry. Even if Speaker Boehner fails to uphold the Supreme Law of the Land, we still have Chief Justice Roberts defending our fundamental, God-given constitutional rights. Does that make you feel better?

Yesterday's bill was HUGELY watered down from the draft released Dec 27th. The most onerous aspect, the NFA classification of all battle rifles, was completely abandoned.

The strong talk and massive buying has them running scared, as it should be.

It's working brothers, keep standing firm !

STICK TO YOUR GUNS

Somebody’s got something on Roberts.
Either something extremely embarassing,
or a threat to someone he can’t protect.

We're not playing around either. Anyone who votes for or supports as evil an act as the gun ban will never get my vote for anything. Subverting the Constitution is an unforgivable offense against our country.

I think they know they’ve caused a line in the sand to be drawn.

People are fed up and arming up.

Not a good situation if you’re an “elite ruling class” member.

I have faced evil, face-to-face, and his response was wrong regardless of the threat. He should not have surrendered. It would take a whole lot to balance the harm he did in one terrible day, and even Methuselah did not live long enough to accomplish that much.

The DiFi bill was intended to distract us.

You are oh so right.
S.150 is (we hear) the whole ball of wax, but they're working on the sub-parts one at a time as well.

Don't take your eyes off the various balls in the air right now:

The gun grabber's legislative (National) bill compendium, updated (almost) daily:

House Bills:
H.R. 21: NRA Members' Gun Safety Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep Moran, James P., Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 34: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep Rush, Bobby L., Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 117: Handgun Licensing and Registration Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep Holt, Rush, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 137: Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep McCarthy, Carolyn, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 138: Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act. Sponsor: Rep McCarthy, Carolyn, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 141: Gun Show Loophole Closing Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep McCarthy, Carolyn, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 142: Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep McCarthy, Carolyn, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 226: Support Assault Firearms Elimination and Reduction for our Streets Act. Sponsor: Rep DeLauro, Rosa L., Referred to the Ways and Means committee.
H.R. 227: Buyback Our Safety Act. Sponsor: Rep Deutch, Theodore E., Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 236: Crackdown on Deadbeat Gun Dealers Act of 2013. Sponsor: Rep Langevin, James R., Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 238: Fire Sale Loophole Closing Act. Sponsor: Rep Meng, Grace, Referred to the Judicary committee.
H.R. 329: To amend the NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007 to encourage States to provide records to the National Instant Background Check System.
H.R. 404: To enhance criminal penalties for straw purchasers of firearms.

Senate Bills:
S.22: A bill to establish background check procedures for gun shows. Sponsor: Sen Lautenberg, Frank R.
S.33: A bill to prohibit the transfer or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and for other purposes. Sponsor: Sen Lautenberg, Frank R.
S.34: A bill to increase public safety by permitting the Attorney General to deny the transfer of firearms or the issuance of firearms and explosives licenses to known or suspected dangerous terrorists. Sponsor: Sen Lautenberg, Frank R.
S.35: A bill to require face to face purchases of ammunition, to require licensing of ammunition dealers, and to require reporting regarding bulk purchases of ammunition. Sponsor: Sen Lautenberg, Frank R.
S.54: A bill to increase public safety by punishing and deterring firearms trafficking. ("trafficking = "private sales") Sponsor: Sen Leahy, Patrick J.
S.147: A bill to establish minimum standards for States that allow the carrying of concealed firearms. Sponsor: Sen Boxer, Barbara
S.150: A bill to regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes. Sponsor: Sen Feinstein, Dianne

And an interesting side note:
H.R. 339: To require the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to make video recordings of the examination and testing of firearms and ammunition, and for other purposes.

And one to support! H.R. 410: To provide that any executive action infringing on the Second Amendment has no force or effect, and to prohibit the use of funds for certain purposes.

I think you’re correct. Over the past few weeks I have been going into debt buying things I didn’t want and may never use. Heck of a creative way to stimulate the economy. LOL

Exactly! They'll push way past where they know they can will, then pullback and "compromise". Then, slowly and incrementally, they will whittle away at that pesky 2nd Amendment.

The other thing about this bill that really sticks in my craw is that the "Ruling Elite" wanted to exempt themselves from the same laws they were trying to force on "The Ruled"...!

Am I PO'd? YOU BET!!!

Write/call/email your representatives! Tell them where you stand and that you expect them to represent you on these views and values! When they start hearing from the "Silent Majority" and they see their own election chances being threatened, they start paying attention...

Any politician that proposes an infringement of liberty while exempting elected government officials from that same infringement needs to be strung up. I mean literally, they need to fear for their lives in doing something like that.
