Smith & Wesson pulls out of Pennsylvania sports show to protest restrictions on display

Smith & Wesson will not attend or support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pa. in response to organizers banning the display and sell of tactical-looking firearms often called assault rifles from the show.

Smith & Wesson manufacturers a successful line of what it and the industry calls “modern sporting rifles” under the M&P brand name.

...

In a news release, James Debney, president and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said: “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear: We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms. Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen’s lawful and constitutional rights.”

Good to see S&W on the right side, this time.

And against Obama.

Is there anybody left that’s attending this show? Better bail out now before the rest of us label you as a liberal.

BTT. It’s slowly dawning on some remarkably dense people that we’re serious about this.

... or "defensive weapons" or "sport utility rifles."

Good Lord, Eaker. The map is excellent, but the commentary will invite the clowns who brought down the blue states to dilute the Texan conservative base. Don’t Californicate Texas. I recommend you start a movement to move Austin to, say, Eugene. Now that’s a move in the right direction!

Time to let that little piece of info “slip.” If we do this right, the only booth in the whole thing will be NPR broadcasting “catch and release.”

I sort of feel sorry for some of the small vendors, especially the outfitters. They're small business people who probably sunk a large part of their annual marketing budget into the show before the controversy brewed up.

Then Reed Exhibitions screwed them.

Now their stuck. Either walk away from their investment or show up and face smaller than anticipated crowds and the risk of boycotts.

The gun owner community needs to really get behind the people who have dropped out of this thing. Personally, I've never had a chance to go on an elk hunt before.

Looks like Reed Exhibitions forgot who brung em to the dance. This is quite an enjoyable situation... a learning experience for all. Sorta separates the bulls from the steers (and the sheepdawgs from the sheep).
