THE SOLDIER’S CODE

Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower addresses troops of the 101st Airborne Division 5Jun1944 prior to D-Day Normandy

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

Must retire – the 0445 Reveille approaches relentlessly.

The Bugler, his grim visage replete with an evil sneer, already mounts the parapet.

The commute went well & hope yours will be the same.

The holiday for some seemed to make a quiet day for me for which I am very grateful!

Wind chill does sap energy needed to keep warm.

Do you even have a little space heater?

Another submarine museum ship is The USS Pampanito, a Balao-class submarine from WWII, now a museum ship in San Francisco, played the part of the USS Stingray in the movie “Down Periscope” with Kelsey Grammer.

No space heater and I don’t really recommend them. Woolen socks, tried and tested in Michigan, sweatshirts and an extra blanket does me well.

Well, it’s always a good thing to have a productive day...at least you can feel that your efforts were worth something! :)

How’s the weather up there? We are having a warm-up...in the 60s or 70s. I hate to even say that, because so many are having sub-zero temps in the Northland! BRR!

Another quick drive by..
We are gonna get walloped by winter storm Jove..
whom they are also calling an Alberta Clipper.
More info here:

http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/winter-storm-jove-boston-new-england-20130121

Temps over the next three nights will be well below zero, too.
(sigh)

On a bright note, I spent the day with Robert, we took a day trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Rob was stationed there a long time ago, so he knew all the best places to eat.
We went to a restaurant called Bratskeller.
Most way yummy food!
Dawn had given me a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, and the one in Portsmouth is HUGE!

We spent a few hours browsing there, and just had a marvelous time!

Wish me luck on my commute to work tomorrow..
I’m gonna need it!
