Four people reportedly shot along Martin Luther King, Jr. parade route in New Orleans

(CBS/AP) NEW ORLEANS - At least four people were shot Monday in New Orleans along the route of the city's Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial March.

CBS affiliate WWLTV reports that, according to neighbors, gunshots rang out less than an hour after the parade passed through the neighborhood.

New Orleans police responded to the gunfire at about 1 p.m. in the Central City neighborhood, near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and LaSalle Street.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas was among those who responded to the scene. The conditions of the wounded were not immediately available.

We have a big problem in this country, and blaming Whitey for it isn’t going to solve it.
Unfortunately, in a country where you speak the truth and get fired, we are not likely to see any progress made in solving the problems.

...publicized reputation for non-violent protest as a means to change social perception and established law has meant something for this country

I must have 'mis-remembered' or misunderstood his evolution into Anti-American, anti-war, anti-wealth and the threats of a 'hot summer'.

Boy (if I dare use that term on this holy of holy days), am I glad I got straightened out. Who knew the NYT, Wash Post et al were a lying bunch of racists back then. Guess I can throw out my annual news almanacs and get with the program.

kumbaya, I shall not be moved.

The shooting did not appear to be related to the parade, authorities said.
Then why mention it?

whatever LA requires.

To purchase and own, not a thing beyond the federal paperwork and 21 y/o requirement for handguns. To qualify for a concealed gun permit an individual must be at least 21 years of age, a resident of Louisiana for at least 6 months, pass a basic weapons training course, take safety classes, and possess no background of felony convictions, alcohol or drug abuse, and mental illness. Once approved the permit takes 10 days to issue.

I doubt they went through all that, or would have qualified if they tried. Age and felony convictions would likely disqualify them.

There are no more *safe* zones in New Orleans than there are in Chicago.
If you visit New Orleans, you are not using situational awareness.

On a further note N.O. Police Superintendent Ronald Serpas is a big anti-gun advocate, has been running his mouth on local TV.

As long as they were shot due to the content of their character and not the color of their skin, then the dream is still alive

I imagine that was true, and the color of the shootees and shooters skin is the same. That being the case, I'm surprised it was reported at all.

However it may have had something to do with the color of their respective "colors".

Anti gun really means, “Blacks are incapable of being responsible.” There’s a racist message in gun control.

That and tell Whitey to stay a victim.

If you ever see MLK Blvd in the news, it's never a good thing.

Naming streets after MLK is a city's coded way of letting white people from out of town know "You are at risk if you go here".

What are the odds that the Martin Luther King Jr. parade route in New Orleans has been designated by city leaders as a gun free zone?

In that part of town, I'm surprised they held their fire long enough for the parade to pass.

That the dude that ordered all guns confiscated after Katrina, while his officers were out looting stores? I know it was a Deputy Chief that announced the policy.

Nope, that was under Warren Riley following orders from Mayor School Bus Nagin, if my memory serves.
