Germany initiates gun registry, to barely a peep
The Washington Post ^ | Saturday, January 19, 2013 | Michael Birnbaum

Imagine a vast registry that details every legal gun owner in the country, along with information about all of their firearms.

Now imagine the gun lobby not making a fuss about it.

That’s what has happened in Germany, where a new gun database went into service at the beginning of the year.

Until recently, some records were kept on index cards across what used to be 551 separate local registries. Now, law enforcement officials can sit down at their computers and scroll through lists of owners and their guns in seconds.

Hunting is popular in Germany, and gun manufacturers are plentiful and powerful. But the push toward increased regulation and oversight, spurred by a string of school shootings in recent years, has come with little opposition from gun groups. Many gun advocates say that if cars can be registered and regulated, so can weapons.

Would that be the same peep not heard in the 1930s?

Now imagine the gun lobby not making a fuss about it.

Now imagine a country who inflicted Nazis upon the world not understanding basic unalienable rights.

WashPo jackasses.

And how did that work for Germany the last time they did a gun registry?

What’s that got to do with the oppressive regime here?

Hitler had vast help from his propaganda machine / worshipped by media and intelligentia (just like it here) too.

You media hacks all wish we could just submit without a peep.

Didn’t they “initiate” a death camp and genocide program a few years back, to barely a peep? Is that something we want to emulate, presstitutes?

The last time Germany did this, it didn’t turn out very well.

I especially liked the part about the police being able to “drop” by and check that the registered guns are secured as demanded by law.

Well...maybe “like” isn’t the right word.

"What’s that got to do with the oppressive regime here?"

More than you might think.

An historic parallel exists between the ongoing American Communist Revolution and the German Communist Revolution circa 1919-1930 when a third of Germany aligned with the German Communist Party (KPD), a third aligned with the National Socialist Party (NAZI), and the other third of the German population couldn’t see any difference between the two Socialist adversaries and stayed out of it.

That is until Adolph Hitler, leading the National Socialist Party (NAZI), noticed that the Jewish minority population had aligned themselves with the German Communist Party (KPD). When Hitler brought this to the German people’s attention, it unified the German majority as their inherent racism identified the Jews/Communists as a threat, and turned their Civil War into a Race War.

And we all know where that one ultimately went.

Oh, there won’t be a repeat of what happened after the last gun registration in the 30s.

We have become more benign and enlightened. We are now members of the EU and that makes us more humanitarian.

You notice that there are no brownshirts this time?

The Washington Post citizens of our Global Village may advocate for one world government, but they seem not to realize that it’s not here yet. Our country (the United States, in case the WaPo writers forgot) has a Second Amendment that guarantees and protects our God-given right to keep and bear arms. Germany, as some of my Jewish relatives learned to their horror, has no such legal protection for that human right. Thank God our Founding Fathers had the foresight to put that protection into the “Supreme Law of the Land”.

Actually, Germany has had a gun registry ever since the occupying forces (US) begin allowing gun ownership after the “problems” encountered from the previous gun ownership “restrictions” already mentioned in the comments. All they are doing now is computerizing it. Is the WAPO and Birnbaum so stupid that couldn't find any of this, or are they so into the Obama cool aid that they just didn't try. I don't know which is worse.

Hitler did this too just before he started his genocide.

I once attended a speech by Jack Kemp where he described the differences between the US and Germany.

Germany, he said, could lower the speed limit to 55mph (or its rough metric equivalent) on the Autobahn and Germans would immediately fall in line and obey it. Then vote every elected official who supported it out of office the next election.

In the US, Americans wouldn’t vote the supporters out, but rather would pretty much ignore the speed limit and even go so far as employing tricks and technology (radar detectors) to avoid being caught.
