WESLACO - A surge in illegal immigration could be in the Rio Grande Valley's near future, officials said.
Officials said this is the time of year when more immigrants venture into the United States.
Border Patrol agents said the Rio Grande and border fence segments are little deterrent for those determined to cross the international boundary.
"We're going to focus our resources towards a threat. So when we have people coming in, we'll put our resources in that area," Border Patrol Spokesman Henry Mendiola said.
"A lot of these folks come for seasonal work or some type of employment. When they haven't been back to see their family, sometimes in years, so they go back and attempt to make that crossing back in to the U.S.," Mendiola said.
Immigration advocates fear the talk of immigration reform may encourage foreigners to venture north.
"Our greatest fear right now is that all of these talks (of) immigration reform are going to encourage people to come out from their country and their places of origin," La Union del Pueblo Entero Community Organizing Coordinator Martha Sanchez said.
Sanchez said her organization is trying to send the message that people must come here through legal channels. She said immigration reform can't help everyone.
"It's only going to happen for people that have been here for a long time," she said.
According to the retired border patrol agent who sent this, the increase has already been happening for over a year.
I believe the better way to employ all of these border patrol guys...is simply start showing up at business operations, find the guilty managers involved in these episodes and actually put them in jail for a year or two. Toss a thousand of these company managers into jail over one year, and this mess would start to dry up real quick.

That would deal with about half of the illegal immigrant entrants. Remember, many come for the welfare, not jobs.
Immigration reform. What does that mean? It means NOTHING.
The Democrats want more fraudulent voters and Repubs are still hiding under their desks frightened of the media. Nothing will be done and the borders will remain open until we again, if ever, have a REAL president, and REAL Congress, that insist on closing the border totally FIRST, then coming up with REAL immigration plans and fixes, and that care about protecting REAL AMERICANS from illegal criminals that the present government wants to feed with taxpayer money for votes and crowd our jails with.

This is why document fraud printing presses are running day and night. AS far as I can see the illegals coming here has never slowed down.Some stories of stash houses posted here in FR,show 50,60 illegals made it across the secured border, they do it every day ,they know where and how to sneak in. The surge, has been ongoing,there has never been a slow down and more illegals are coming here. Word in mexico must be lay low, do not commit serious crime, the US gov will not deport you.You can ask for drivers licenses, work permits, etc,etc, breaking the law has never been easier and friends the rewards are vey great.. Go to the land of Milk and Honey.
Yes it is already happening. They are also putting up a virtual fence here, though the sections they have elsewhere actually don’t work from what I hear. This area got vehicle barriers and now virtual fence, I would think for the expense of both they could have built a real fence here.
During the last amnesty most illegals that did not actually qualify got the needed documents for free. “Well meaning” folks that owned businesses and whatnot wrote statements for illegals that they had been here the required time. So many people feel sorry for them and will do things like that. I feel sorry for some of them myself but it is past time to take care of our own before we can afford to help others. It is also past time for us to close the border and follow immigration laws to allow in only the people that will help this country prosper instead of turn it into a third world country.
I send my money to www.teamamericapac.org, it is money well spent since they give their pac money only to candidates who want to stop illegal immigration and who want to reduce legal immigration over all. The former representative from Colorado, Tom Tancredo runs this organization. He is no rino and he only gives money to those candidates who protect our borders.
