Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, also said the Republican approach was reassuring.

"If the House can pass a clean debt ceiling increase to avoid default and allow the United States to meet its existing obligations, we will be happy to consider it," he said in a statement.

I can't believe how stupid the Repubs are. I thought these men and women were well educated. Certainly, most of them have degrees. Some are doctors or lawyers. So why is it that I, who didn't finish college, can figure out that this “proposal” is utterly assinine and they can't?

GOP already lost the debt ceiling fight twice and Obama already won public opinion this time. The GOP has now picked a new place to draw their line in the sand. Now if the gov’t shuts down it will be because the Dems in the Senate didn’t pass a budget. Finally the Pubbies are learning how to use political jujitsu.

Maybe we were blessed with common sense and “street smarts” and can smell a rat. Obviously, these educated dummies can’t. I could just puke.

.
It’s not a matter of education with the GOPhers, it’s a matter of lack of spine.

The debt limit ceiling passed in 1939, should be repealed. There’s no reason for a mature country to fight over whether to pay its bills.

Instead, we should focus on cutting spending and passing responsible budgets that ensure the federal government lives under the same rules average folks have to live under.

True. But if we could accomplish the above, then there would be no need to set a debt limit. Unfortunately, our govt is full of unscrupulous scoundrels who feel they are above the law and above “We the People”

The debt limit always gets raised in the end because America cannot default.

We should offer to get rid of it in exchange for real controls on spending.

There’s a place to pick a fight and win it. Not here.

If not now, when? The U.S. is eventually going to default on its loans-it is a matter of time. There is never enough money for greedy power-hungry politicians.

The repubes are beginning to remind me of the “guys” Bath-House meets up with on his trips to Chicago...

Lack of a spine makes certain “acts” easier.

Not raising the debt limit does not result in default.

The Treasury still has $240 billion coming in every month --more than enough to fund the debt, support the military and write social security checks. The so-called "non-essential" employees who are told to stay home after every snowfall would probably have to be laid-off and some governmental programs suspended.

But wouldn't that be a good thing...???

That's exactly what it is. The average working man whether it be a non-union janitor, mechanic or bus driver or even a typical High School or even some Junior High School students could run this country better than the majority of those paid to do so in Washington DC. We'd be much better off. Common sense, that's what is lacking in DC.

Obama never dreamed of a better offensive line than that brought forward by Boehner.

It doesn't even take a snowfall anymore. There was a forecast of snow around D.C. yesterday, and employees were allowed to take leave. There was no snow. There was no rain. It was overcast, though. I wore a t-shirt and jeans to the grocery store during the predicted peak of the "storm."

Crock of crap. If the worthless GOP can do what we sent them to do in 2010 then they either need to quit or I say just give it all to the Dems in 2014.
