Ray Nagin indictment: First New Orleans mayor to face corruption charges
New Orleans Times-Picayune ^ | January 18, 2013 | Gordon Russell

A federal grand jury on Friday indicted former Mayor Ray Nagin with 21 counts of corruption, alleging that while in office, Nagin took cash bribes and gifts from two city contractors and used his power as mayor to leverage a granite installation contract from Home Depot as the retailer was building a store in Central City. Despite New Orleans' reputation for political shenanigans, Nagin is the first mayor in the city's history to be indicted by a grand jury on corruption charges.

The indictment against Nagin includes six counts of bribery, one count of conspiracy, one count of money laundering, nine counts of deprivation of honest services through wire fraud and four counts of filing false tax returns.

It's George Bush's fault that Katrina wiped out my city and exposed my ineptitude and corruption!

Nagin’s picture is next to the dictionary definition of “slack-jawed insouciant.”

Four counts of filing false tax returns. Another democrat fair share felon. These are the charges on which he’ll likely skate.

First New Orleans mayor to face corruption charges.

I find that somewhat surprising considering it's New Orleans and Louisiana. I would have thought that more would have been indicted over the years.

YAY. I get to be the first one to say it!

Headlines from the Liberal media.....(and we all know it's coming)......."The only reason they're going after this democrat is because they're racist! All this has nothing to do with his personal finances. They're attacking him simply because he's a black man".

There must have been a lot of evidence for the GJ to indict the former Chocolate City mayor.

Just how incompetent did he have to be to be just the first Mayor of New Orleans to face corruption charges?
