Obama Failed to Support Illinois Bill Charging School Shooters as Adults

There just weren’t enough letters from adorable kids out there to convince him to do it.

Proposed in 1999, the same year as the Columbine Massacre, SB-0759 would have prosecuted teenage school shooters as adults. The bill passed almost unanimously, with 52 Yeas, and only one Nay. And a bunch of Presents, one of them from the Illinois State Senator currently lobbying to wreck the Bill of Rights because he’s just that concerned about school shootings.

Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Juvenile Court Act of 1987. Provides for adult criminal prosecution of a minor at least 15 years of age who is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm committed in a school, on the real property comprising a school, within 1,000 feet of the real property comprising a school, at a school-related activity, or on or within 1,000 feet of a conveyance owned, leased, or contracted by a school or school district to transport students to or from school or a school-related activity.

So why did Obama vote “Present” on this bill?

Possibly because in Chicago such a bill would have mostly impacted minority gang members and might have even cost him his seat due to the strong gang influence on local politics.

But Obama also voted “Present” some 129 times. It might just be that he was too lazy to read the actual bill. Though according to Colin Powell, suggesting that a man who voted Present 129 times and spent half his term golfing or on vacation is lazy is almost as racist as calling him a Socialist.

But either way, Obama did not care to take a stand on school shootings in 1999. As with most things, Obama ignored the issue until a convenient time arrived for him to jump on it and exploit it for his benefit. His embrace of liberal causes, whether it’s gay marriage, illegal immigration or the anti-war movement is always selective and conveniently timed. It’s the behavior of a man with a campaign strategy in place of principles.

FLASHBACK: In 1999, Obama wouldn’t support tougher prosecution for school shooters

__________________________________________________________

In 1999, State Senator Barack Obama voted “present” on a bill that would require adult prosecution for discharging a gun in or near a school.

That legislation came as a response to the tragic Columbine High School shooting that year.

SB 759 provided that anyone 15 years of age or older charged with aggravated battery with a weapon in school or within 1,000 feet of a school would be charged as an adult.

It passed the Illinois State Senate in a 52-1 vote, with 5 members voting present — including Obama.

That vote followed a trend for the young lawmaker, whose controversial votes on crime legislation often raised eyebrows.

A Chicago Tribune editorial even accused Obama of being a “gutless sheep” for missing a vote on crime legislation in late 1999.

The reason is that THOSE school shooters, were of the same anti-colonialist mindset as Obama.

Obama would join them, except he has a much larger target.

"Gutless"? Is that because smart Chicago style politicians don't take stands against violent black gangs? Ahhh, but Obama does have the 'courage' to take on white middle class men who have jobs and families and follow the law... yeah, that's charming. And telling.

It is one of the eccentricities of leftists that they are opposed to strict punishment of minor criminals, no matter how savage.

Perhaps the most glaring example of this was found in Bernie Madoff. Among the “charities” he generously supported with other peoples’ money, what stands out is that he would give money to *anyone* who had a group opposed to *any* punishment of juveniles, for *any* offense.

That is, if a group advocated that a serial killer under 18 just be freed outright, no punishment at all, they would get a fat check from Madoff. Nothing was too heinous or perverse. Children could murder, rape, burn down occupied buildings, armed rob, etc. Repeatedly. And he still did not want them punished for it at all, or even just detained, prevented from doing it again.

And Madoff even graded such groups by the amount he gave them. If they just advocated leniency for juvenile criminals, they would just get a small check. But no punishment at all, even no arrest, just letting them go, and they would get a huge amount of money.

It’s just one other weirdness that can be attributed to many leftists. No idea if it is universal among them, though.

And telling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Very telling. It tells us Nobama didn’t give a crap about blacks killing blacks in the ghettos of Chicago, but let some little white children get killed in Newtown?
Then its time to act.
A lot of things disgust me, But one of the biggest disgusts I have is the silence of racers like Rev. Al and Rev. Jesse. Where have they been all these years as blacks are killing themselves?
Same place the enemedia has been. A big (yawn) “Who cares?”?
I wonder if those children - who are now back in prison - are repaying Madoff with kindness for his kindness?
Are they using lube?
geez conservatives that look at Obambi’s record forget how much he has “evolved” as a great and wonderful OZ leader. Give it up looking at his past is about as helpful as tryting to get rid of Reid or Pelosi. Take on figts we can win like cutting out waste in order to reduce the size of geovernment.
If I walked into a school with a coat hanger and tried to kill kids he would have no problem with it.
You're right on this issue. Obama doesn't care about black children being slaughtered in Chicago - either does Jesse or Sharpton. Well, they 'care' if a white person does the killing - there's money and power in milking white guilt... but that's about it.
There are good black people living in Chicago who are terrified of the gangs. They're people who work to raise good kids... and they deserve better...
My guess is democrats 'leaders' like Bill Ayers stand with Chicago killers - try to understand them and keep their sentences short. Dedicate books to them - then help the President write his... lyin' and jivin'
If the Lyin’ King wished to purchase a gun legally, even with today’s laws in place, he would not pass even the most casual ID procedure.
Not only are the race-baiters silent about black-on-black crime, they never mention the origins and agenda of Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger’s Eugenics “Dream”.
Or that Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln were both Republicans!
