(Reuters) - New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie harshly criticized the National Rifle Association on Thursday for referring to U.S. President Barack Obama's children in an ad that advocates putting armed guards in schools, calling it "reprehensible" and "wrong."

"I think it's awful to bring public figures' children into the political debate," Christie said at a press conference in Trenton, New Jersey.

It still irks me that Ann Coulter, who I used to like, repeatedly slandered candidates such as New Gingrich in the last cycle, while stumping for the likes of Mitt Romney and Chris Christie. Especially Christie - she would never shut up about that bloated fraud.

Welcome to your 2016 presidential candidate America.

Can we quit posting anything at all from Christie and Powell. Their time is long over for them to say anything in the name of Republicans. There is no longer anything these two can say to redeem themselves.

Now, now...let us not insult pigs. I prefer "Up yours, you anti-gun, leftist, amoeboid blob".

I am not familiar with starting a Pool but if someone set one up for the date Christie comes out of the closet I would put $25.00 to FR if I didn’t hit the date.

Maybe the winners would/should settle for bragging rights!

I am sick, sick, SICK of hearing from that fat tub of LARD!!!

I weigh 250 pounds & FWIW began keeping a food log this year. I learned finally that to get my size or larger is something you have to seriously work at, & Governor Krispy Crisco’s clearly got me skinned a mile!

I've read the whole thread up to this post (54 replies). It is a pretty sad commentary for FR. The subject is Chris Christie's opinion on the NRA ad, which he is labeling as "reprehensive." The comments should be about agreeing with his opinion or disagreeing with it. But that's not what we got here ... we dig get a bunch of "DU" responses calling him pig, Nazi, Fat, Commie, yada yada yada. If name-calling becomes your "intellectual response" ... then we here on "our" side of today's issues have a problem as we are no different than the "intelligence level" (low information voter?)of our opposition. Anybody can call Christie a name, how many can give an intelligent disagreeing answer to his opinion? It seems not many at FR.

If you want to call Cristie names, go over to DU and do it there ... we already dislike his ideas here, so "name calling" is not going to influence us. The only influence that has is upon our opposition who revel that we are also becoming "name-calling low information voters" who cannot use IDEAS to win an argument.

Shame on most of you here!

Well, a comment like that certainly continues the "tone" of this thread. Actually, I feel most welcome here, I do not welcome the vulgarity and lack of intelligence (Democrat-style name-calling) on an FR thread where, thoughtfully, a certain level of intelligence would be more appreciated. But I guess I'm dealing with the LIV crowd even here and should lower my expectations.

I am certainly among those who made fun of Governor Christie.

And yes, I must confess that I did depart from my usual standards of civil debate.

Let me put it another way: As a conservative, I am offended by Christie’s remarks. I don’t necessarily agree with every position of the NRA. Nor am I a member. But Christie needs to decide whether he’s a Republican and a conservative, or a Democrat and a leftist.

When the NRA finally said something after Newtown, their proposal was to add armed guards in schools. There may have been other proposals they could make, but I hardly think they deserved the beating that they took from the media and others. Their ad was, in part, a response to that.

I have seen the ad, and it’s true. Obama’s kids attend a school with (I am told) 11 armed guards. Yet he and the other liberal elitists (some of whom sent their kids to that same school, or to other schools that also have armed guards) still seem to act as if the NRA is “insane” for proposing such a ridiculous idea.

I find nothing “reprehensive” about the NRA’s ad. On the contrary, I think it’s Mr. Christie who is deserving of that label.
