TIKRIT, Iraq, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and more than 25 wounded in two car bomb explosions in a town in Salahudin province north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Thursday, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

The first attack occurred in the morning when a car bomb detonated in the center of al-Dujail town, some 60 km north of Baghdad. Minutes later, another car bombing followed targeting security forces and civilians who gathered at the site of the first blast, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The attackers apparently followed old tactic which depends on creating an initial explosion to attract security forces and people, and then setting off another blast to get heavier casualties, the source said.

The toll could rise as many of the victims were evacuated by ambulances and civilian cars to several hospitals and medical centers in the city, the source added.

Surrendering in Iraq (i.e. leaving before the population of scumbags is reasonably mollified and a pro-USA strong man is installed) delights the anti-American jerks like Obama....

Imagine, if you can, how damaging this is to ANY pro-American Iraqis....and yes, they exist. Just look to the young people of Iran: they are very pro-America (except now they know Obama doesn't give a damn about their freedom).

America said we would stand with our allies....and Obama abandons them. Just like Obama revealed the identity of the informant who helped our Navy Seals discover the hideout of Osama. That guy is now imprisoned and reportedly being tortured...

How about Hosni Mubarak? He sat in the White House with the Kenyan Clown just a few days before the "Arab Spring"....and the clown threw him under the bus.

IF you were EVER inclined to trust the USA, would you trust it NOW? NOW that Obama has pulled the rug out from underneath those who DID trust us?

Not to mention how he has stabbed Israel in the back.

Obama's foreign policy is a disaster that will harm this nation for decades.

16 JAN 2013: Brief Summary: A wave of attacks in Iraq Wednesday killed nearly 30 people and injured hundreds of people in the bloodiest day in two weeks. Two car bombs exploded in the ethnically mixed city of Kirkuk, about 180 miles north of Baghdad, near the local headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. An estimated 19 people were killed and over 200 injured. Also in Kirkuk, a suicide bomber hit a Kurdish security facility killing at least four people. The assault appeared to target a local office of Masoud Bazani, president of Iraq’s semiautonomous Kurdish region. Another suicide car bombing hit Tuz Khurmatu, south of Kirkuk, near the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. The bombing killed two people and wounded 26 others. Sectarian tensions have recently increased in the disputed region after Iraqi government troops confronted Kurdish militias as Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has sought to consolidate security. The attacks in Kirkuk came a day after Sunni member of parliament, Efan al-Essawi, was killed by a suicide bomber in Anbar Province. The country has recently seen a rise in mass anti-Maliki demonstrations accusing the prime minister of marginalizing Sunnis.

This looks like the Kurdish region is going to start getting hammered.

Have there been many attacks like this in the Kurdish areas?

The Kurds started pumping oil into Turkey and did (2008) have a pretty solid economy independent from Iraq. I know that burns Maliki - and with pressure from Sunni Al Qaeda ops in the Central area — he’s fighting a 2 front civil war...

I’m sure if Maliki (Shia version of Saddam) and his supporters (Iran) can - they attempt to send in infiltration to disrupt and delay any progress in this area - but the Kurds are smart and have (from what I’ve seen) been able to deflect these acts of aggression...it’s a really interesting play of forces at the moment - but neither side as any amount of resources to overwhelm the other at the moment — so it will remain unstable...and I think the region is used to that - so it’s the norm so to speak!

Thanks. I’ve been pulling for the Kurds all along and was very impressed with the progress they have made in that somewhat autonomous region after all the abuse they had over the years.

They could also be a very good ally in the region for the US. Though who knows with the current idiot in the White House.
