A tourist from Massachusetts was recovering at a New York City hospital after being brutally beaten by a gang of seven young men armed with a tire iron and a baseball bat, police today revealed.
Kevin McCarron, 24, from Andover, was battered and stomped unconscious by the men after an argument in the trendy Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan early Sunday.
An onlooker captured horrific cell phone video of the attack, showing several young men kicking the victim on the ground.

So bloomie.. Hows that gun ban working for ya? Curbing any violence?
But - but - but, NYC is FREE of violence, and there’s no need to defend yourself!
It’ll be a cold day in hell before I spend another minute in that hellhole.
Those evil Amish, no doubt. Or maybe Morman’s...they are quite the gang.
Too bad the tourists weren’t armed — seriously. Only the nannies get that kind of security.
Go cut me a long switch...
... That'll learn 'em
“A tourist from Massachusetts .....”
Mayor Bloomberg should be so proud “Hey look, no guns.”
BAN THE BATS & TIRE IRONS!!!
The look white to me. It’s possible they are Muslim, but they definitely aren’t black.
At least most of them aren’t, judging from the video.
Bloomberg’s mission ‘to reduce gun violence’ accomplished.
If the MA man fought back the gang of seven in self defense with a proper firearm, it won’t even make the news.
The challenge for legislators is where to draw the line.
Where in all this madness does the sane man draw the law against the insane man.
I say the time is nigh to ban New York City.
Walmart and Autozone announced they will not be restocking baseball bats and tire irons pending legislative discussions.
A Massachusetts tourist in NYC is like being on a latrine tour.
If the victim is a registered Democrat my concerns for his recovery stop cold...........
Hello conservatives trapped behind enemy lines.
This is a big hint to get you and your families out of commie red states and to Patriot blue states.
At this point, conservatives do not have the organization to come rescue you if you get in trouble.
The country is dividing and you’re on the wrong side of that divide. Pack your bags, love your families and get out while you can.
Nanny Bloomers and the mobster in the Governor’s mansion should be proud.
This is concrete proof that gun violence in NY City has been drastically reduced.
WalMart sells guns and ammo, and baseball bats, why use them?
My memory of Andover is that it is a well-to-do community. On Wikipedia, “According to a 2008 estimate, the median income for a household in the town was $114,319, and the median income for a family was $138,556.”
Well we know A-Rod wasn’t involved; he can’t hit anything after August.
THIS is why you need a high cap magazine.
You owe me a keyboard.
Time to ban tire irons and ball bats.
bet my house the attackers were black.
The version I heard was “The only thing he hit in the playoffs was the groupie fan.”
Of course not. That’s just crazy talk. You probably hate puppies too...
Better speech and debate skill would clearly diffused the situation.
Do you want me to FReepmail my address so you can mail me the keys and title?
“bet my house the attackers were black.”
Probably not in The Village; the deviants there wouldn’t allow seven blacks in their neighborhood together. It is a toilet, but a white/Asian toilet more than a black one.
FWIW, this is from the article:
“Hatem Farsakh, 24, is charged with gang assault, assault and attempted murder. Police also arrested Sherif Rizk, 22, also of Brooklyn, in connection with the case.”
I left for PA 25yrs ago, after working (lived in NJ) in Midtown for 17yrs; no way in hell I’d ever go back, either.
Behind enemy lines, we know to stay out of the urban welfare reservations. I’m barely 10 miles from NYC, and haven’t been there in over 10 years. An increasing trend (a problem, from the eyes of NYC’s tourism industry) is that an increasing number of young people in northern NJ have never been to NYC (and don’t intend to visit). Part of that is caused by the fact that the area nearest the city has become a Hispanic colony (and whites have fled west); another side is that nobody here believes it when you tell them New York City (or Newark NJ) is safe. Their crimes are reported on our local news; we know better.
I love stories like this; reading between the lines I’m guessing the tourist is a liberal (at least he was; now he’s been mugged, so that makes him a conservative).
“5:AM Sunday morning”
Young, restless, out half the night partying and drinking.
Now, you might think I am speaking like someone who blames the rape victim because she had dressed like a hooker.
I’m not really.
And the guy did not deserve what happened to him, and his assailants deserve the book thrown at them.
I lived in Manhattan in my 20s; we did the late-night Saturday night scene, on occasions. We also knew the things - getting drunk, certain locations, certain kinds of people and certain kinds of situations - to avoid. It was not very long before we recommended to our younger friends and family members that getting together socially with a gang of friends in your own apartments was as rewarding and a whole lot less risky than mingling with the drunkin hordes out for a big night in town. And usually if someone did get drunk at our place, a cab was called to come pick them up, or they had to stay at the hosts apartment until they slept it off; we never sent a friend drunk out into the streets.
I know the location of the event in the article. It’s on 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue - Artichoke Pizza. A niece lives not too far from there.
That pizza place has done a great job at marketing itself, but I’ve had their pizza and I’m no fan.
About two blocks north of there on 1st Avenue is Beth Israel hospital. I hope that young man was taken there and not transported some distance to another hospital.
In places like Texas, violent criminals get shot by onlookers.
One method is a vicious cycle, the other is short and effective.
I haven’t been to the city in years, but blacks were only allowed there as individuals to sell drugs (to the NYU students); they didn’t have the right to assemble in that part of the city.
The last names indicate they may well be Asians; no shortage of them there.
My questions is, why didn’t the onlooker come to help the tourist? What a pathetic human being.
Hatem Farsakh, 24, is charged with gang assault, assault and attempted murder.
Police also arrested Sherif Rizk, 22, also of Brooklyn, in connection with the case.
Ny Daily News reports the location as Macdougal Street, West Village not East. There is another Artichoke location there.
Gonna be a lot of flat tires around NYC ;) Not sure how the Yankee’s will be able to play home games.. (hey wait.. maybe we should look in to this!)
Law of unintended consequences.. Just like banning the guns.
Did I also hear that NY (state?) just limited cops to 7 rounds by a poorly written law?
If he was wearing Red Sox clothing it would be ruled justifiable.
Hmmmm.. a vigilante that was a good shot could have killed all seven of them..
The news from that event could encourage a whole city..
NYC needs to be Charles Bronsonized... and Detriot, Chicago, San Fransicko and L.A. not to speak of Berkley, Ca, Madison, Wis, and Dallas.. O.K. and Boston as well..
Heck it would be blamed on drive by gang activity..
The vigilante would have serious cover..
“My questions is, why didnt the onlooker come to help the tourist? What a pathetic human being.”
Things have only gotten worse since the famous Kitty Genovese slaying 5 decades ago (when NYers listened to a woman screaming for help and did nothing); now if they intervened and the perps were the wrong color or a protected class the Good Samaritan could be prosecuted (I’m not kidding).
Will New York outlaw tire irons?
“And the guy did not deserve what happened to him, and his assailants deserve the book thrown at them.”
A crime is a crime, and the victim didn’t deserve it, but it never ceases to shock me how naive people can be. These young people who’ve had it drilled into their heads that their parents were wrong on everything are rapidly finding out how right their parents often were.
In my younger days, if we went to the village, there were at least eight of us (all male); we treated the place with the caution it merited. Many of us had parents who’d fled NYC 10 -15 years before, and we knew why.
BAN BATS, YOU DIPEY SOCIALISTS
5 kids a day die from abuse , that is more from guns where is the outrage?
agree, all conservatives now need to think about getting the hell out of these socialist states.
got my wife out of there years ago and she said it was the best thing she ever did, though any gun owner ,who voted Dem can stay up there as we don;t want them and their dumb voting ways
