NEWSER) – The third time was not the charm for Aslan Usoyan, a prominent Russian mob boss who was assassinated today after surviving two previous hits. Officials say "Grandpa Hassan" was killed by a single bullet fired by a sniper as he was leaving a Moscow restaurant. The 75-year-old last survived a 2010 attempt on his life in which he was shot in the abdomen, and a police source says the group that injured him then is believed to be the same one that succeeded in killing him today, reports RT.

“I find it difficult not to like Putin.........”

He does seem to put the interests of the citizens of his country first, which is a novel political idea here. I also like his attitude towards terrorists: he doesn’t try to understand them, determine their motiviations, buy them off, or try not to offend them: “We destroy them”.

There's another way to look at it. I've been waiting a long time to hear any sort of a politician with the power to do anything about it say the first word about protecting Christians in the world and so far, the only such case I know of is Владимир Путин. I'd trade any dozen of our own politicians for him.

Notice the lack of ear protectors, the thing has a dog-whistle type silencer on it and a cleaning rod under the barrel, military weapon, probably Russian 223 caliber, 5.56x39.

That’s a standard ak-74 muzzle break, not a silencer. It makes the weapon very controllable in full auto, but definitely NOT any quieter. In Russia, ear plugs you! Caliber is 5.45x39 on that piece.

Good observations.

Given the table, the guy taking pics on the far side and the angle of the table to the wall, it's just a pose - finger near/on the trigger notwithstanding.

What’s the difference between Obama and Putin?

One loves his country and wants to see it succeed and be number one in all things.

The other is the President of the United States..............

Sorry, I don’t picture anybody, least of all Russians needing a muzzle brake on a 22cal rifle and the thing doesn’t look at all like any muzzle brake I’ve ever seen, it’s almost certainly one or the new dog whistle type silencers meant to reduce noise levels to non-dangerous levels, the Russians got tired of everybody being hard of hearing after their stints in the military.

It is 100% a muzzle brake. I am on friendly terms with the 74. While the 5.45 isn't a fire-breathing monster of a cartridge, the ak series is prone to muzzle climb, and that brake is an effective one in full auto fire. If you look at the picture you can see the lower rib below the vents more clearly than the one on top. That's because it is nearly twice as wide as the one above, directing muzzle blast upward and to the sides. In addition, if you look at the little ports farther back, one points 90 degrees to the right, one is up higher and points up and right, while there is one a little farther back still (not seen in picture) that points up and left. It's not about reducing felt recoil on this rifle but rather control and staying on target in full auto.

It's no coincidence the design is from 1974; they watched the NVA and VC get chewed up by the M16 and were duly impressed by what small rounds can do in numbers on target. That rifle is all about delivering accurate full auto fire in quantity. Great in the jungle or urban environs, but out in Assholestan they have the same range issue as the 5.56 does. If you want to see one in action, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPht6vZo-zQ
Watch the smoke and you can see it working.
