As we begin a new year, we again indulge ourselves in the annual (if somewhat futile) rite of forecasting the year ahead. This year I want to look out a little further than just one year in order to think about the changes that are soon going to be forced on the developed world. We are all going to have to make a very agile adaptation to a new economic environment (and it is one that I will welcome).
The transition will offer both crisis and loss for those mired in the current system, which must evolve or perish, and opportunity for those who can see the necessity for change and take advantage of the evolution.

Unsustainability and Transition
Think back to 2001. It was the opening of a new millennium. While that was auspicious enough, several events then ensued that shaped the future for decades to come. China was admitted to the World Trade Organization, leading to a revolution in its production and global trade. The euro was launched with much fanfare – and a minor chorus of criticism.
We are now in a midst of a great trial that will determine whether the euro will be a brief experiment or a durable currency.

Nothing Lenin, who was spawned by the devil, has to say matters in the least to me
If Even the devil can quote scripture, it doesn’t invalidate scripture. I am prepared to believe that Lenin knew what he was doing and did so capably with great evil. His thoughts on politics and history have value taken with due consideration for the source.
uhhhhhhhhhhhh ok. When does the devil quote scripture? Jesus quoted scripture to fight the devil, I can’t imagine the devil is capable of accurately quoting scripture. You can acknowledge the devil Lenin, may he burn in hell, if you want. But not me.
To think that by making people more dependent on government (which can only provide to the slackers through taking — by force — from the productive members of society) is a path to “sustainability” (among the statists’ favorite words) requires a person to deny both economic reality and the reality of how people act if they are free of tyranny.
Matthew 4 and Genesis 3 but the quote comes from Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice”. What you’re engaging in is a variant of the ad hominem fallacy where in the character of the speaker is used to invalidate his wisdom. Despite his horrible actions, Lenin did manage to overthrow a thousand year old monarchy and replace it with a system that rose to world superpower status. I certainly have neither love nor respect for Lenin but I credit him with the wisdom to know exactly what he was doing. His comments on that have value.
Governments are going to quit spending more than they collect in tax/fee revenue by the end of the decade?
I am a big Mauldin fan and subscriber......and I think he nails it here - but you must read this piece carefully and slowly.

I cannot see any evidence of the political will in Washington,DC to make any difficult choices. I think his suggestion of the House presenting two budgets and holding the debt ceiling until one is passed is genius - brilliant. But I can’t see the backbone that they will do this.

I cannot recommend Mauldin’s book, ENDGAME, highly enough.
A must-read for all here who want to really know what is ahead. But you need to put your thinking hat on...it’s pretty solid and a meaty work......not a casual read.....
Correct! We conservatives (and all Americans for that matter) need to have an understanding of what Lenin said, and how he thought. And that's because many on the far left are using Lenin's playbook to this day.

It does seem that 'orders' went out to talk up the economy. All these guys know that nothing has changed enough to change the downward spiral but they arl talking about the recovery, the turn-around.

well I just read Matthew 4 and the only reference I saw to satan was when he cometh and taketh away the word from their hearts, so you have not convinced me. bye bye
