Interior Secretary Ken Salazar leaving

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is set to step down from his post in March, after four tumultuous years overseeing oil drilling, recreation, grazing and other activities on federal lands and waters.

According to administration officials who confirmed the decision, Salazar plans to return home to his family in Colorado, the state that he represented in the Senate and where he served as attorney general for six years.

In the post, Salazar oversaw the reorganization of government agencies that oversee offshore drilling in the wake of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Under Salazar’s watch, the Minerals Management Service was dismantled and replaced with three separate agencies charged separately with collecting revenue from offshore energy development, leasing federal waters and overseeing the activity.

He also pushed for renewable energy development on public lands and waters, including the approval of more than a dozen utility-scale solar energy projects — the first of their kind on federal territory.

As recently as last week, Salazar rebuffed reporters asking about his future, commenting only that he had a lot of work left to do.

The March exit will allow President Barack Obama to focus first on filling other open Cabinet posts, including those of the Secretary of State, Treasury Secretary, Labor Secretary and Environmental Protection Administrator.

The move also appears likely to further delay any regulatory moves by the Interior Department, including a proposed rule to set mandates on the design of wells drilled on public lands and force energy companies to disclose the chemicals they use to produce natural gas at those sites. An initiative to force third-party audits of offshore oil and gas companies’ safety and environmental management systems, known as SEMS II, also could remain on hold.

If only, in the dead of night, they’d ALL leave closing the door quietly.

It would certainly save a lot of hot tar and feathers that will just pollute the Potomac when they’re tossed in like bales of tea.

Let me know when the revolution starts.

Another indication that Obama is about to throw the Greenies under the bus and DRILL BABY, DRILL in order to finance his massively growing government.

Hope he takes that cowboy hat with him. I was living in Colorado when he beat the beer pusher. It was another case of the GOP putting up someone “who could win.” Salazar won because he ran as a conservative, Western Slope, Colorado kind of guy. I bet he doesn’t move back to the Western Slope unless you count a vacation home in Aspen.

Don’t worry, he’s too rich for you guys now. He’ll have a home in Aspen and/or Vail but he won’t be there very often. Of course he could run for Governor when Hickenlooper leaves. He’d win too. You’re state is completely Californicated.

salazar and his family should be shunned, ridiculed and left to wander the land. salazar was an integral part of nobama’s effort to ruin the United States.
