N.J. mayors, Virginia Tech shooting victim's father, demand tougher gun regulations

Flemington resident Michael Pohle knows all too well the pain caused by the tragic epidemic of school shootings across the country. He has been pushing for tougher gun regulations since his son, Michael Jr., was one of 30 students shot and killed at Virginia Tech in 2007.

Monday, one month after a gunman shot and killed 20 children and six educators at a school in Newtown Conn., Pohle spoke out in support of a group of mayors from New Jersey communities who are working toward the same goal.

"With each new national tragedy, our members of Congress tell us that it's too soon to talk about new gun laws. Try and tell that to grieving parents and critically injured cops and brave teachers," Pohle said as he joined the group of 20 elected officials at the Cranford municipal building. ....

A group of mayors from four New Jersey counties plan to head to Washington, D.C. Wednesday to join counterparts from across the nation, and demand Congress take action.

"Our message is simple. Pass sane gun laws and do it now," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Hahr, who is one of those making the trip. ....

"This has nothing to do with the second amendment. It's about gun violence," said Former Gov. James Florio, who was among the speakers in Cranford. Assemblywoman Linda Stender and state Sen. Ray Lesniak, both Democrats from Union County, also attended the announcement. Florio signed an assault weapons ban into state law in 1990. Most of the elected officials at the meeting were Democrats. ....

"There's a reason that big city and small town mayors have joined together in this coalition, and it's because no municipality is safe from the threat of illegal guns and military style weapons," said Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini.

“It’s about gun violence,” said Former Gov. James Florio, who was among the speakers in Cranford.”

Another liberal fossil comes out of the woodwork. Gonna be a real love-in in DC tomorrow.

They are free to move to communist countries where all types of guns are banned. Then they won’t have to wring their hands over guns.

My wife’s home country of Laos has a communist gov’t, and all types of guns are banned. It doesn’t stop the ownership of AK-47s, and it doesn’t stop the ongoing murder of the Hmong by the Lao PDR gov’t.

Jim Florio, the man who would tax toilette paper, and who insisted on the assault rifle ban in New Jersey which the cowardly New Jersey GOP legislature refused to overturn when they had the votes to do so, and which later would become the role model for the Natioanl assault rifle ban.

Don’t believe these lying bastards - from Obama don to a little pug-faced button man like Jim Florio when they talk about “reasonable” gun laws.

To understand what they mean, one need only look to other well-coiffured freak in Albany New York, who, with a stroke of a pen, illegally seized lawfully purchased private property and created an entire class of criminals where none existed before.

They want your guns - all of them and every kind of them.

Hey, take your message and shove it. Now, we know the real Americans who really love their country and honor the country's heritage of liberty and freedom. People died you stupid jerks for us to have the right to speak freely and to have a right to assemble and a right to protect ourselves. You jerks know that if you disarm us, you can do whatever you so desire. You maybe even tempted to imprison or much worse action taken to those who decent against you. Now, what other countries does this occur in.

How about this, degenerates. Either amend the Constitution or shut the [EXPLETIVE DELETED] up.

"...with a stroke of a pen, illegally seized lawfully purchased private property and created an entire class of criminals where none existed before."

When did this happen?

Could you supply or lead me to the details about this? Thanks.

From what I read, Cuomo forced a new law through the legislature in the middle of the night and signed it. New Yorkers are now just finding out what is in it.

The mob mentality in America is an increasing problem, spurred on by an increasingly ignorant population.

Every event, especially the tragic ones, is followed by this or that individual DEMANDING things. They can go pound sand.

I misunderstood.
“private property” refers to guns, not land. I thought Cuomo grabbed guns as well as land.

What happens now to obama’s statement about bringing a gun to a knife battle?

Guns are banned at Virginia Tech. How did that work out?

This father, campaigning behind the body of his dead son, is an insult to every father who welcomed home a dead soldier.

I hope they fight him in the courts and bring articles of impeachment against him for this and other misdemeanors.

When you review this guy’s abuse of power, pandering to his campaign contributors with American tax dollars and his foreign policy actions, Watergate looks like it really was -a tempest in a tea pot.

LMBO!! New Jersey?
New Jersey is already one of the most fascist states in the union. I mean, there's just no more "gun control" room left to move on to.

If guns hadn’t been banned on the VT campus, Mr. Pohle’s son might still be alive. I’d love to know how many well trained shooters/hunters were on campus that day but were unarmed due to that law.

In both the VT and Sandy Hook cases, the perp knew he could go in guns ablazing, with absolutely NO resistance.
