By Mr. Curmudgeon:
"America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they've already racked up," said President Obama ahead of the upcoming debt ceiling negotiations, "We are not a deadbeat nation." Obama made these remarks with a straight face.
Of course, to "pay the bills" the President and Congress have "already racked up" requires borrowing many more trillions of dollars - moving America toward the deadly debt-to-GDP ratio of 80% (we are currently at 73%). America, in reality, is a deadbeat nation in the making.
Speaking of deadbeats, House Speaker John Boehner assured Washington's press corps that his bipartisan coalition of weak-kneed Republicans and hard-charging Pelosi Democrats will "do its job" by raising the debt ceiling in a "responsible" way while paying lip service to fixing Washington's "spending problem." If you are a dedicated and loyal member of the Republican Party and believe Boehner's drivel, it's time to have your head examined. The debt ceiling exercise underscores the tragic fact that as thoroughbreds are concerned, the GOP is a dead nag.
The old nag occasionally rises upon its shaky legs, makes a few noises about fiscal responsibility, and drops back to the ground, tongue hanging from its mouth - a reflex of decomposition.
The only interesting thing likely to come out of the phony debt ceiling debate is how the media portrays the irrelevant GOP as a robust cadre of Spartans blocking the narrow pass to the approaching Progressive armies. Something Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh will no doubt parrot. It's a fantasy, of course, but dying nations are prone to irrelevant flights of imagination.

Drives me crazy. Obama seems to be portraying John Boehner and other GOP leaders as iron-willed absolutists who never negotiate, never compromise, and always insist on getting 100% of their extremist rightwing demands satisfied.
But -- rest assured -- Obama has finally had enough, and he will give in no more. You can hear the media heave a sigh of relief: "Finally! Someone will stand up to those Republicans!! Maybe now we can begin to move the country to the Left!
That’s because Boehner played Obama’s game—one on one negotiations. That is not his job. The way to make the GOPs case is to pass legislation and use every available media outlet to rub Harry Reid’s nose in it. Ignore Obama completely and keep the publicity and pressure on that ignorant old ass in the Senate.
“...seems to be? “...seems to be? Obama knows exactly what he is doing and that is to divide the GOP and destroy it...with the help of the media and the Politically Correct RINO’s. Looks like this Obama hates America so much he is willing to destroy her in favor of a Marxist.........
“...about whether or not they should pay the bills they’ve already racked up”
This is not about paying for things we already have. This is about continuing to buy things we can’t afford. Putting something in a budget doesn’t necessarily obligate us to spend it.
Wow, why doesn’t the writer of this piece just eat a frickin’ bullet?
The House Republicans and the Senate Republicans are somewhat hamstrung.....although their communication REALLY sucks.
If this were a Republican President and a Democrat opposition, the IMMEDIATE response would be a boatload of Congresscritters, perhaps posing with constituents who have had their jobs eliminated thanks to Obama....and lots of charts showing how people are being hurt by BO.
Oops. I made a mistake above....my actions and words should be understandable though.....sorry.
